I have the conversion kit. Questions?

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I only own 2e. This sounds like a bonus pack of hero-y goodness for someone who own this version alone. I mean, I know I don't have that many heroes in the basic set. (though, minis would be hard to come by for them)

Dan

This thread dicusses a Conversion Kit that is available that allows you to make use of Descent Version 1 heroes in the new Descent Version 2 game.

Don't forget the goodies for the overlord; it contains monsters too! It includes 2nd edition cards for all the D1e monsters, and this is the main reason I will be picking it up despite not owning any 1st edition stuff.

Thank you very much for all the transcriptions any2cards. It is a very generous use of your time.

How is the E1 material exactly used in a E2 scenario?

I assume, that Heroes are simply chosen by the players, but how does the OL choose monsters, if they are not listed in the scenario description.

And do I understand this correct, that there are 3 lieutenants included in E2 but there are no cards for the RtL and SoB lieutenants?

Monsters from E1 are used as "open group" monsters. I would presume the Monster Cards in the conversion kit would have the same icons on them that the E2 monsters have on them.

Sorry if it's been posted somewhere else before, but I'm looking for Tobin Farslayer conversion info. Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me to it or type it out for me.

Tobin Farslayer Scout

Speed: 4 Hearts: 12 Fatigue: 3 Defense: Grey

Willpower: 2 Might: 3 Knowledge: 2 Awareness: 4

Hero Ability: Each of your attacks that targets a monster that is at least 3 spaces away from you gains: Surge: +2 hearts

Heroic Feat: Action: Use after attacking a monster that is at least 5 spaces away from you (after attack dice are rolled) to deal +3 hearts to that monster.

Hellhounds are potentially far more dangerous. Aura 1. Spend a surge for Fire Breath: Starting with the target space, trace a path of 4 spaces in any direction. All figures on this path are affected by this attack. Each figure rolls defense dice separately. Spend a surge for Pierce X. Now breath attacks no longer conform to a specific template. It will be far harder for the hero's to plan to avoid it, as it can take any path (zigzagging, etc.).

Someone correct me if I am wrong but, you must trace the path in any direction in a straight line from the targeted space. You can't zigzag the path of the fire, that wouldn't make sense.

That is up for debate actually. While making thematic sense, there is nothing in Fire Breath that says the line has to be straight. It even says 'path' as opposed to line, and specifically says 'in any direction'.

Thanks for this and the rest of the info any2cards!

Tobin sounds awesome, I'm glad I grabbed him, he'll do a good job of encouraging my heroes to make better use of ranged attacks.

You and I are in agreement based on the wording. Nevertheless, I have added an entry into the FAQ sticky asking this question.

If it could zig-zag it seems to me that it would say "4 spaces from the targeted space." rather than having "in any direction" tagged on. That is the part to me that seems to mean that it must go in one direction.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

I agree that this needs clarification, but I think if it meant in a straight line it would either say a line rather than a path, or "in any one direction" rather than "in any direction". Disclaimer: I play Overlord and enjoy my Shadow Dragons and Hellhounds. happy.gif

I would say you have to pick a direction, and count 4 spaces in that direction. Admittedly, this is based on the spirit of the thing, since it's hard to imagine the Hell Hounds throwing curveballs or making a bank shot.

However, I agree that the wording is vague and could use clarification.

I think it IS intended to zigzag in order to replace the old breath template.

Look at how the template is used in the e1 FAQ, page 4. www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp

Tracing a zigzag breath 4 spaces would allow you to hit the two heroes in the upper tunnel, same as the breath template. If the hero on the right were up one space, you could still hit him tracing a zigzag path, and he would still be under the area of the template. The hero in the lower tunnel, however, cannot be hit with the new rules, though he was hit with the old rules.

The trace 4 seems to be a streamlining of the rules that is easier to manage than the template, and zigzagging will replicate the billowing effect they intended with the template.

Can I get the skinny on Steelhorns?

Steelhorns Warrior

Speed: 4 Hearts: 14 Fatigue: 3 Defense: Grey

Willpower: 3 Might: 5 Knowledge: 1 Awareness: 2

Hero Ability: If you perform 2 move actions on your turn, you may suffer 1 fatigue to perform an attack at the end of your turn.

Heroic Feat: Action: Move your Speed. During this movement, you may enter spaces occupied by monster figures and move those figures into an adjacent empty space (or closet empty space) of your choice.

What is Laughin, if someone has it offhand?

Thanks. :)

Laughin Buldar Warrior

Speed: 3 Hearts: 14 Fatigue: 3 Defense: Grey

Willpower: 2 Might: 4 Knowledge: 2 Awareness: 3

Hero Ability: You may treat 1 of your equipped melee weapons as if it only had 1 hand icon (even if it has 2 hand icons).

Heroic Feat: Action: Use as your entire activation to perform 3 attack actions. If you do, you cannot move this turn, not even by suffering fatigue.

Is it just me or does he seem pretty bad compared to even Grisban?

Dude, your good will is totally being abused by lazy blokes (KevinBakon in this instance) who can't read the thread. You'd already given and typed the stats and rules for the minotaur. Not to mention many of these heroes (12 in fact) were already shown on the FFG facebook page.

My question: How are Brightblaze and Skye represented on the board? It doesn't seem like the kit gives tokens to represent them.

Just as with all of the heroes / monsters, the familiars should be represented by the tokens from D1…

Hah, yeah I thought about it too, I guess it was too obvious and deviated from the "reusing all the plastic" schtick of the CK. So at least a couple of cardboard tokens will make it over too. gui%C3%B1o.gif
