1st edition Heroes Archetypes and (main) Classes

By The_Warlock, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

2nd Edition has 8 Heroes, each one designed to reflect one of the 8 Classes (Knight, Berserker, Disciple, Spiritspeaker, Wildlander, Thief, Runemaster, Necromancer). What about 1st edition Heroes?

Conversion Kit is soon to be released, but I was wondering today how will they convert the Heroes from 1st edition into 2nd edition. There are many obvious transpositions, but many could be debated. Especially Healers (both Classes) and Necromancers, since there's nothing to define such classes in 1st ed.

Even after CK is out, we might agree or disagree about conversions as they have been devised, so it's interesting to speculate before we really know. I would not motivate my choices right now to avoid an exceedingly long post.

These are my bets:

( Hero Name - Archetype - Class)

Andira Runehand - Healer - Disciple
Arvel Worldwalker - Scout - Wildlander
Aurim - Mage - Runemaster
Battlemage Jaes - Mage - Runemaster
Bogran the Shadow - Scout - Thief
Brother Gherinn - Healer - Disciple
Brother Glyr - Healer - Disciple
Challara - Mage - Runemaster
Corbin - Warrior - Knight
Eliam - Healer - Spiritspeaker
Grey Ker - Scout - Thief
Hugo the Glorious - Warrior - Knight
Ispher - Scout - Wildlander
Jonas the Kind - Healer - Spiritspeaker
Karnon - Warrior - Berserker
Kirga - Scout - Wildlander
Krutzbeck - Warrior - Berserker
Landrec the Wise - Mage - Runemaster
Laughin Buldar - Warrior - Berserker
Laurel of Bloodwood - Scout - Wildlander
Lindel - Scout - Wildlander
Lord Hawthorne - Warrior - Knight
Lyssa - Healer - Spiritspeaker
Mad Carthos - Mage - Necromancer
Mordrog - Warrior - Berserker
Nanok of the Blade - Warrior - Berserker
Nara the Fang - Warrior - Knight
Okaluk and Rakash - Scout - Wildlander
One Fist - Warrior - Knight
Red Scorpion - Healer - Spiritspeaker
Ronan of the Wild - Scout - Wildlander
Runemaster Thorn - Mage - Runemaster
Runewitch Astarra - Mage - Necromancer
Sahla - Mage - Necromancer
Shiver - Mage - Necromancer
Silhouette - Scout - Thief
Sir Valadir - Warrior - Knight
Spiritspeaker Mok - Healer - Spiritspeaker
Steelhorns - Warrior - Berserker
Tahlia - Scout - Thief
Tatianna - Scout - Wildlander
Tetherys - Scout - Thief
Tobin Farslayer - Scout - Wildlander
Trenloe the Strong - Warrior - Knight
Truthseer Kel - Mage - Runemaster
Varikas the Dead - Healer - Disciple
Vyrah the Falconer - Scout - Wildlander
Zyla - Healer - Spiritspeaker

Well don't forget that the characters are only associated with Archetypes. The players choose the specific class.

So while Karnon will clearly be a warrior, the player could choose to have him be a knight.

… But I admit it seems weird to have Karnon be a knight!

I agree with your archetypes though. I guess we'll know very soon! :)

Hoefully they'll make more achetypes and more that 2 classes for each archetype. Some expanded skill selection too..

I wonder how they're gonna do One Fist since a lot of starting equipment requires 2 hands to use.

New classes and archetypes will probably show up in expansions, since they require new card sets, however I hope that many of the heroes from the conversion will have more generalized skills that are really useful for either class in an archetype.

Yeah, I knew that, this will make Conversion seamless. In principle, I think that all former "jack of all trades" Heroes will become Healers (perhaps Aurim is included).

You can choose the Class you want for a given Archetype, but since 2nd Ed Heroes clearly represent the 8 possible Classes, I thought it could be thematically interesting to associate 1st edition Heroes with both Archetype and Classes. Some of them are difficult to place in a category.

As someone noticed, the next expansions will probably feature new Classes (maybe new Archetypes) and the currently misplaced Heroes might show what's coming next.

For example, Sir Valadir and Varthrax may be both Warrior - Knights or Healer - Disciples, but there's a chance they'll build a Healer - Paladin Class in future, which will be more suited to both of them as they have also magical abilities in 1st edition.

By "Varthrax" I assume you mean Varikas the Dead. He doesn't really strike me as a Paladin type, being all undead and evil and stuff. He seems like a pretty clear-cut Knight to me, at least of the classes that currently exist.
