Orphan of the Greenblood and The Power of Faith

By nikotina, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

If my opponent has The Power of Faith revealed and Dragonstone Convert in play, and I use my Orphan to remove the icons of the Dragonstone Convert, does she still have the MIL icon? I know that this type of lasting effects cancel each other leaving the character unchanged, but I feel compelled to understand that the Convert still has a MIL icon because the passive abbility of the plot is constantly checking and the Orphan's abbility only checks once, despite being "until the end of the phase".

What's the final result?

Ultimately, you seem to be getting your "checks" confused. The plot "checks" to see if the modifier it offers is applicable. The Orphan "checks" to choose a character that its modifier is applicable to when it is triggered. But once you determine if the modifiers are applicable, you move on to the next step of actually applying said modifiers.

So with the Convert, you get a simple icon check of 0 (printed) + 1 (plot) - 1 (Orphan) = 0.

Your attempt to give the plot more weight because it is a continuous effect (rather than a lasting effect created by a triggered effect like the Orphan) would either make the icon check:

  • 0 (printed) + 1 (plot) - 1 (Orphan) = 0 + 1 (plot…again) = 1 --> and you cannot apply the same modifier more than once; or…
  • 0 (printed) + INFINITY (continuous plot) - 1 (lasting Orphan) = INFINITY --> which doesn't make sense given the rules of the game

Fantastic. Thank you very much!
