Monodominants vs Amalathians

By Nanthius, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

What say you people and why?

You wanna hear who we prefer? For the Game as an Inquisitor? Without the game in mind? Or what do you want to talk about in the dedicated Gammaster area?

As an NPC who do you prefer in order to give briefing and all the background lore to your acolytes ;

Well, it depends on the Campaign you are running. Both Factions are puritans and can be more or less zealous in their believes, that complety is on you, the GM.

Though from their Factions a Monodominant would make sense if you send your akolythes regularly against threats like witchcraft or cultists while the Amalathian could send you to investigate the power base of some nobles or even a Govenor that has acumulated to much strenght and became a threat to the status quo.

Though why should you took one of these? Any "normal" acolythe hase no Idea of the Ordos itself and their real structure, what should they do with the names of inquisitorial Factions they know nothing about and never will?

An Inquisitors does not introduce himself like: "Hello, I am John. I am an Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus and a Member of the Monodominants. My Hobbys are fishing and cooking."

He says that he is an Inquisitor and that is all they need to know, wheter they are ordenary Imperial Citizens or a Sector Govenor. An Inquisitor holds his cards close to the chest.

As I see it Amalathians are the closest you'll get to a "normal" Inquisitor while the Monodominants are a much more extreme direction. In much however it probably depends alot on the story for what is needed but I usually run the Amalathians as the Puritans and only bring in the others when I have a specific plot in mind for them to be part of.

The book of Eisenhorn is a great help , because even if puritans have some common ground for thinking "Radical is Heresy" they despise each other's modus operandi. The monodominants are mostly like a well established faction that is looked up on by other factions or institutions …amalathian's seem like a fallen aristocracy. And politics of the inquisition is a great element of the game if any two pcs want to have an antagonistic rp

Well, in my opinion simple akolythes are just Pawns in the politics of the inquisition. They dont have to need anything and follow order. If needed they get sacrificed and replaced. Atleast real thrones Agents could know something for they have proven their worth.
