So like….is this game still being "produced"?

By Mercfh, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Im new to Board Games (well more like….returning). I didn't understand the vast world of it/reprints/editions/etc…

That being said I got to play this game and watch friends play it and I LOVED it, it was so fun and epic…..I had to get more. However most shops are sold out. I can order online, but I guess I don't want to "invest" into a dying game if that makes sense?

It seems like a Pretty popular game, and there are expansions at local game stores. But is the "Base" original game still actually being produced? Or is pretty much whats out there is all thats gonna be out there. If so that sucks :( cause it looks like a game i'd like to get into.

I really don't understand what you mean. Do you actually dislike a boardgame that is no longer printed just because it's no longer printed? Seems pretty silly to me. If you have friends to play with does it even matter if it'll get more expansions or not? This game, with it's two expansions, will supply you with hundreds of hours of fun. At least. If that's not good enough I don't know what will be. This isn't some computer game where you get your 8 hours of compaign game play and it's over until an expansion comes around. So it seems very odd to me that you think it sucks that the game only has two expansions when you haven't even played them.

No no no, im not complaining. Im just curious?

Makes it harder to get pieces…..etc if stuff gets lost. I mean…..I assume it is since they are producing expansions, and u kinda need the original to play. I didn't mean to come off as someone who won't play a game that isn't being made. Hell Doom (the board game) and Space Hulk are some of my favorites.

My understanding is that the game is currently being reprinted.

As far as I know, the game is still in print, at least technically speaking. It has been a while since the last reprint and it sounds like copies (particularly of the base game) are getting scarce, but I also haven't heard any official word that it's done for. My guess is that FFG is holding off on reprinting for now, due to the rising costs of plastic - this game does have a metric ton of the stuff, after all. Hopefully that trend will turn around soon, or perhaps FFG will find other reasons to go ahead with a new reprint…. For now, we don't know.

The base game is fantastic. The expansions only make it better. If you think you're interested in buying this game, I'd recommend going for it. You can still play the game after it's gone (so long as you have a copy), but if you wait you might miss your chance. That's what it boils down to. Sooner or later all games go OOP, so the need to take care of your bits over the long haul is something that's not avoidable. If you're worried about defective bits in the copy you buy, I'm sure FFG still has enough spare bits to replace those if you buy in the near future. Ten years from now, maybe not, but that's true of pretty much any game after ten years.

It doesn't appear to be currently listed on the Upcoming page. I hope you're right, but for the moment FFG isn't making any promises.

I just recently had the same problem of finding the base game. I waited several weeks for my FLGS to get a copy of the core game in (usually they can get items, even special orders, within 1-2 weeks but this was proving not to be the case this time) and ended up (reluctantly) ordering it off eBay. Go figure that a couple of days later they got it in.

Given they just released Shards of the Empire a little over a year ago and the spin-off Rex even more recently, I would guess that this game is still in production but existing copies will take a little work to get and a reprint could be a little ways off. None of what I just said is "official", though, just observation and speculation.

Christian T Petersen (whose name some of you may remember from the front of the TI3 box) recently posted a comment over on BGG concerning this very question. Apparently, the most recent reprint of the game has just been completed, which means it should be showing up again on store shelves soon.

What Steve-O wrote is pretty much what I agree with. All games eventually go OOP. This TI is the 3rd edition afterall. Whether this game will every completely go OOP is IMO incredibly doubtful. TI is FFG's flagship game, the 1st game they ever made, I think back in 1997. And it's got a real (cult?) following as it's an amazing game and keeps getting better with expansion sets. So I would definitely recommend you jump into this game if you think it's for you. Definitely one of my favorite games ever and honestly I think one of the best boardgames ever made. May the Lazax rule again!

Technically, the games was out of stock, not out of print. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Beyond that, I think an above post has the link to Mr. Petersen who states that the game will be back on shelves soon. In fact, my FLGS has one in stock, and the expansions.
