Wanting the Hero figures without buying the expansions

By Primus Pilus, in Dust Warfare General Discussion

Hi Guys,

I am really wanting to collect the hero figures for all factions from the original DUST Tactics Starter Set onwards.

Please Fantasy Flight release them in a boxed set or as singles. I have the rulebook and one or more of every model so far. I have the Axis & Allies Heroes boxes but I want all the rest please corazon.gif

Many Thanks and Happy Gaming,

Allan

I think Paola Parent is releasing Sigrid and Joe on his site soon.

Only in Premium form, at $40.00 a pop for the two. And no sign of the others. I think your best bet is eBay or buy the campaign packs.

Thanks for the heads up.

Disappointed as he will charge a premium price that will not be worth it for me.

This has been a recurring question since Dust Warfare came out. I think the reason that individual Hero minis aren't sold separately is because FFG doesn't want to cannibalise campaign box sales. It's that double-edged sword thing that happens because Tactics and Warfare are marketed as two sides of the same coin.

I'm one for heroes being sold separately. FFG pls!

FFG has NO direct control over this. It is all up to Dust Studios bro. FFG is just a distributor for the Dust minis. The ONLY thing they have direct control over is the Dust WARFARE rules.

Hi Guys,

I emailed DUST Studios in the hope I can order the figures somehow. I want the figures to paint up myself and do not want the premium edition ones. Most of the hobby for me is painting.

I have invested a great deal of money so far but if I cannot get them I will happily move on from DUST Warfare. Great game but If I cannot get the figures there are plenty of other games and miniatures out there.

I know Miniature Gaming is relatively new for FFG but I hope they can work something out.

Happy Gaming,

Allan

And this is what everyone needs to do if you wish to effect change and get them to market hero packs separately. There has to be feedback frm the DW community in enough numbers to make them repackage their product line to cater to us.

I agree that a polite email is a great thing to send to the company.

The problem is the second part of the statement.

"I spend X amount of money on your products" and "If I don't get my way I am going to stop buying your products" are both hollow threats that customers make. Statements like this are not usefull, constructive, or a legitimate threat.

People are either ignorant of the time and cost involved in the manufacture, packaging and distribution of a product, or they understand but are so impatient as to just end up being jerks. If they are ignorant, they can be educated and hopefully will understand that things take time. If they are just being jerks, which is the case far too often, there is never any pleasing them.

I have no insight into Dust-Models/FFG's production or distribution chains. In my estimation, you would be looking at a year minimum to design new packaging, produce small hero packs, and get them on store shelves. Doing this in under a year would probably be possible, but highly unlikely since they have a production schedule already set and any changes would be difficult at best.

I just wish people would take a minute and realize that companies do not do things just to mess with people. The Dust Tactics campaign expansions were out well before Dust Warfare existed, it will take time for the figures in those boxes to become available outside of those boxes. It isn't guaranteed that they will ever be available outside the campaign boxes, but it is highly likely, in time. The game isn't even six months old yet, give them some time.

Yeah, polite, non-threatening email is what I meant as well. And, it's actually quite within the realm of possibility they're already working on it. But like ItsUncertainWho said, it takes time. Heck, it could easily take a year just to get the packaging done the way they want.

I believe the the packaging and marketing is deliberate. I purchased a dust tactics expansion for one character model. I can't believe I am the only one, so they leverage the warfare desire for heros into increased revenue. This will hit a breakpoint when they will offer the heroes at a lower price because they have tapped out those willing to buy the tactic expansions. They knew warfare was coming long enough to provide a campaign book, they certainly could have designed packaging for hero models.

So, there is no way to get the models like "The Chef" without ordering the expansions for Tactics?

There is no threat here. I have been gaming for over 25 years and seen companies come and go. I am more awarre than most of production times and the effort and cost involved in producing a game and figures.

To say Fantasy Flight has no control on releases is niave at best. With out Fantasy Flight Games ability to produce and distribute great products as well as it's reputation as a great company DUST Tactics would not have happened let alone DUST Warfare.

All miniature gamers understand that releases take time and everything does not get released at once. Gamers also understand that a hero or villan that is listed in the book(s) has been released but you cannot get them any longer or to get them you must buy an expansion set for the two figure included while the rest of the expansion has no value unless you are a DUST Tactics player. Do you expect this will encourage gamers to start a new game system or even continue if there is no support?

I have contacted DUST Studios and FFG with polite request for help with obtaining the heroe/villian figures.

I am sure they will respond politely as well. Like them I am sure they want their business to continue to suceed. Unlike most gamers I also understand this is new ground for FFG and DUST Studios. I don't expect eerything to be perfect. Buy asking the questions not just as a gamer but as a paying customer we let them know what is needed to fix an issue.

"The problem" as you put it is that people make assumptions about other peoples beliefs or experiences. I would appreciate if you did not put words into my mouth that were never there to begin with. If you are going to be rude you are only going to detract from the forums and the game and put off people from starting DUST Tactics/Warfare.

@ Primus - I didn't think ItsUncertainWho was attacking you specifically. This forum has demonstrated a knack for assuming FFG is solely responsible for release times and packaging choices. I think you just got rolled into that group perhaps unfairly. However, I also thought your stated correspondence to FFG sounded very much like a threatening, "You're not playing right so I'm taking my toys home" kids in sandbox type statement. I apologize for misunderstanding your intent, and am grateful you came back and clarified your position.

As far as your latest, I think you're being overly generous when you state, "All" mini gamers know… Trust me, I'm in my 35th year of playing table-top miniature games, and I've run into more than a few clueless about the industry gamers. They are becoming more and more prevalent IMO. They expect miniatures to be as quick and easy to produce as CCGs.

Also, I'm very confident Dust Tactics was going to happen with or without FFG. In fact, my original core set has a different company's logo on the box. There are a number of companies who could have done a fine job distributing DT. I agree though, DW deserves credit for doing a great job after taking over from AEG, and also is to be credited for DW.

Finally, I didn't think ItsUncertainWho was putting words in your mouth. I thought he quoted you, but perhaps I am mistaken there as well.

@ Primus - What I said was not meant as a personal attack and no offense was intended. I did lump you in with the vast majority of people I deal with on a daily basis, as well as, the majority of people on these forums who just do not understand what it takes to manufacture something. I deal with sales people and customers all the time, who have no clue how the products they are ordering are made or the time and effort that is required in their production.

At no point did I say FFG had no control on releases. What I said is they, like all companies, work on a schedule and they are also bound up with an overseas company for whom they distribute a product. We, the consumers, do not know who, FFG or Dust Studios, is in charge of manufacturing miniatures. My guess would be Dust Studios, based on a post in another thread.

As for putting words in your mouth, I did not. I paraphrased what you said into slightly more generic terms. Working with customers, in a sales role, I have had people tell me what you did and many various forms of it. Anytime a customer utters any variation of “I spend money buying from you so I deserve X” they loose all my respect. It is a threat, like it or not.

I'm not completely sure why evryone makes such a huge deal about this. To pay 40-45 dollars for 2 heroes even if that is all that came in the boxes (and its not) is not the end of the world if you want that particular hero in your force. I have not bought every box and some I find to be a better value than others but if I really wanted that particular hero, 40 dollars wouldn't be the reason for me to boycott the game, especially given the huge deals I get on most of the rest of the product line. GW regularly charges 20-25 dollars and more for single heroes as a matter of course and people fork the money over for them without batting an eye. The number of heroes that are only available in the campaign boxes are not that many, you will likely not want or need every single one (unless you want to collect just to collect them all at which point the money should really not be a big deal for a "collector", if you are a true collector you are probably getting off easy at 40 bucks compared to other things you collect). There is a hero box for each faction with 3 heroes in it for a great price and the heroes inside are great. If you really want Markus in your Axis army, buy the campaign box, it wouldn't be the end of the world to pay 20 dollars to make your army more powerful. When you consider that you get 260 points worth of minis (26 models and 2 vehicles) in the core set for like 55 bucks (you sure as hell don't get two big walkers and 26 soldier models in any other game for that price and they sure as hell don't kick in 6 dice, 2 tank traps and 2 ammo crates along with them), and many of the 5 man booster sets are 10-15 bucks, how is there a reason to complain for those 2 or 3 heroes that you have to pay 20-25 bucks each for… which is the price you are paying for the powerful heroes in other games. And even if the campaign box only comes with a couple tank traps and ammo crates, show me another game where you buy a king of the hill level character for the same money and get a bunch of terrain pieces… and this is assuming you hate or don't play tactics. For tactics players, you get quite a bit in the campaign boxes.

Some of the campaign sets are a downright steal… I heard someone ask about having to buy the campaign box to get the chef… The operation cerberus box that chef comes in is an absolute steal! For 45 bucks you not only get the chef, but more importantly, you get Angela, one of the best heroes in the game and a must have for any axis player. Many people would pay the 45 bucks just for the 2 minis… if there was a 40k GW sticker on it the price would be a bargain for a box with a hero in it as powerful as Angela. But what makes the box such an absolute steal is that it comes with a huge 3 story plastic, modular building as well… something that many companies would charge 45 bucks or more for all by itself… and this is still assuming that you are throwing away the tactics stuff in the box. The Zverograd box is another great example. In it, you get a walker, a hero model and a single story building for 45 bucks…. have you seen the price for a single GW dreadnaught lately… a walker that is not even comparable size- wise to a Dust walker… and they sure as hell don't give you a hero model on foot and a free building in that dread box. Some heroes cost you 20-25 bucks each if you want one of those 4 or 5 heroes that only come in a campaign box and many of them come with terrain pieces or buildings, etc. Other heroes come 3 in a box for 15 measely bucks. What other game can you get a really powerful hero character for 5 bucks… seriously… Action Jackson is freakin' amazing and pretty much costs 5 bucks. If you are a german player who likes using zombies you get 2 great zombie characters for 5 bucks each… When the SSU hero box hits (remember that warfare has only been around for mere months and its pretty amazing all the models that are available- GW would have taken years and had people custom building all these heroes for a few years and making us look at peoples ugly ass garbage conversions for Grenadier X) the SSU box has 3 really great heroes in it on the cheap as well. If you really really need that hero that is a beast on the table and makes your army better, drop the 45 bucks and you have the model forever, get another hero in there you can trade or sell to someone else that has the other army and get a couple terrain pieces for your table to boot.

Or complain about the 40 bucks and head down to the movie theatre and happily spend 40 bucks on a popcorn, drink and ticket for a 2 hour experience that leaves you pissed off after if the movie sucks…. I doubt you will say after the game of Dust warfare that Angela sucks… and you get to keep the 3 story building… how long did that popcorn and drink last? Did it even make it passed the coming attraction trailers? Many of us on these forums have years and years of miniature gaming experience… as such, we should recognize the great value that we get from most of the product line and accept that the occassional piece here and there will cost the same excessive price that every other miniature game line charges for their powerful heroes. Hell, after all these years of experience we all have, we should be used to it by now.The difference is, that those companies don't offset the small minority of higher priced heroes with dirt cheap everything else, they complement the high priced heroes with high priced everything else… and they don't give you tank traps, ammo crates and multi-level buildings either.

Seriously guys?

I came on the forums asking for help from players and not to get bashed by fanboys.

I have not bad mouthed FFG or DUST Warfare to anyone despite no receiving any reply to my emails to FFG. I am still hoping to hear back from FFG.

At the end of the day I play for fun. It is a miniaure game and like most gamers I want access to figures shown in the DUST Warfare rulebook as produced by Fantasy Flight Games.

Painting is a big part of the hobby for me and I am not going to pay premium price for a figure I premium figure when I can paint better that the Premium range and would not be happy using a Premium Painted figure.

The Premium Prepaints are a great idea for those who dislike painting, lack the time to paint and those who just want to get a painted model on the table asap they do not suit me at all. As such I do not want to pay extra for the Premuim Pre-paints.

Some of the expansion sets are great value (I completely agree as I have a number of the Buildings already) but I do not want to pay for the DUST Tactics component of the sets.

If we don't put it out there for FFG how will they ever know? Surely I am not alone in wanting the game to suceed internationaly and have the same longevity enjoyed by other systems?

If I have to use figures from other manufacturers to represent character models I will happily do so but would far prefer the official figures.

There is enough negativity on other forums and gaming systems lets not bring it here. I certainly respect your points of view and where you come from but you guys seriously need to dial it back a few notches.

Above all it is a hobby and we do play for fun and the enjoy the social aspects of the hobby as well.

Happy Gaming,

Allan

I don't think anyone bashed you. We disagreed and gave our opinions why. It's unfortunate that you felt you were being attacked.

FFG is a company, they don't owe any individual consumer anything. I have spent a lot of money purchasing products from them, board games, RPG's, and now miniatures. They don't owe me anything. They have products I like, I spend my money. This doesn't entitle me to demand things of them. Far too many people don't get that. Am I loyal to them, yes.

They earned it by providing a level of customer service I would have never expected on two separate occasions, this does not mean that I think they can do no wrong. It's a problem with most modern consumers, they think things can happen instantly.

Like I said previously, Warfare is still brand new. Things will take time to get flushed out and taken care of.

You chose an unfortunate time to try to contact them. About two months before GenCon and 2-4 weeks after is a time of extremely limited communications. This time of year they, and every other game company, are prepping for the single biggest sales and marketing event in their calender year. Their communication has always dropped off due to all the prep work they are doing for the event. They have always gotten back to people, that I am aware of, eventually.

I think you need to be posting some pics of your work up in the painting forum. I am always interested in seeing what others can do.
