Innsmouth

By StarBurn, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I hope the small dust cards have something to do with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I can imagine that turning into a pretty sweet game mechanic. It wouldn't have anything to do with Innsmouth but I don't care. I want it anyway.

If I had to guess, I would say the Dust is related to an Ancient One or the Innsmouth Look Deck. There aren't enough counters, assuming the number is correct, for it to be a measure of corruption of the Investigators; or too many counters if each can only have 1.

My guess would be the Dust can only be removed by drawing from the Look Deck, and has some detremental effect on the Investigators for the Dust just being there. Maybe the Dust causes you to suffer penalties for being at the same location.
Sounds great ... who ever goes to Innsmouth becomes a Maid in order to clean up the town.

I'm so excited I just reinstaled Dark Corners of The Earth on my PC again...

I shall flood the streets of Innsmouth with my insane drooling. Dam/n beware! This time you shall not escape!

I am picturing you riding around Innsmouth on some kind of demented Zomboni. A funnel and tubing are strapped to your chin with straight jacket sleeves. The funnel collects the ample drool as it runs from your gaping maw, and it runs down the tubing, continuously refuelling your hell-chariot. The whole thing has a very 70's film-based-on-a-Stephen-King-short-story feel to it. Did I mention that the Zomboni has a blood-specked slow-moving vehicle sign on the back, over which have been hand-painted the words "Keep on Truckin'?"

Dam, I'm sorry buddy, but you're basically screwed. As for Dan... forget about Dan. He bit it in the first act.

Cheers,
Chris

I agree with Frank, I see red dimonds on the board as well (Other Worlds I don't see, anyone done a CSI-esque in largement of the pic?). I don't think there will be a rifts mechanic because each expansion as only required the base set to run-- I don't think they would make one expansion dependant on another expansion.

EDIT: But there are vortices (sp?) on the board according to the picture

Unfortunately, the picture was taken at low resolution so on close up views the text still isn't visible. But you can tell a number of things about the picture on closer inspection.

1. The text box on a few of those locations is huge . Measure it out, the location circle of the upper left hand location actually fits inside the relevant text box. And it has an attached "arrested" box like that on the Police Station of Arkham.

2. There is at least one "neighborhood" that has no attached locations. Think Dunwhich I would guess, because there are also vortices, yes.

3. The map extends into the water, and there is at least one unstable location that is apparently under the water. It has a text box that is hueg like Xbox.

4. One of the monsters has a white border. I don't know what that means.

5. There are at least 4 neighborhoods shown. Presumably each one has three encounter types. One apparently only has 2 attached locations, but one of them has the aforementioned "in jail" side box, so I'm guessing there are separate "in prison" encounters while you are in Innsmouth.

I'm actually willing to pick this up based on the idea of personal storylines for Investigators alone. Sounds like a cool twist to add to the game. I'm wondering if it'll work out somehow similar to the personal plots in Android?

It's the same for me, that idea alone has me salivating in frenzied anticipation. If you're Sister Mary or Joe Diamond (to stick with the basic ones) should make a difference in the story at least sometimes.

It does. Joe Diamond is stone cold awesome and Sister Mary is one of the weakest characters out there. gui%C3%B1o.gif

* 96 Personal Story Cards - means 2 cards per investigator...

* 36 Arkham Location Cards - 4 additional cards per Arkham district

* 42 Innsmouth Location Cards - figure it out, its a multiple of 6 or 7 districts...Id say 6

* 16 Gate Cards - but zero new gate tokens...so no new otherworlds, unless....there is another way to get to them...permanently affixed to the board...?

* 24 Ancient One Plot Cards - hurrah! 3 for the 8 new AOs

* 10 Innsmouth Look Cards - uhoh.

* 12 Small Dust Cards - hmmmm

* 32 Monster Markers - deep ones. shoggoths.

* 2 Aquatic Markers - hmmm, Mythos cards that create floods???

* 1 Zhar Token - only one suggests its a marker like the first player token.

Nope. Most likely just the same two tokens present in Kingsport to mark the docks and the unvisited isle as aquatic locations.

BTW: Anyone else missing new Guardians in there? 3 are really too few for any interesting variance :-(

You did not just say mary sucks ?!... you do know she can spend clue tokens to re-roll her bless right ?!

yeah i guess you are right, extra tokens for most people but never mind some use can be made of them by creative minds....

and yes I would have liked some more Guardians. We may still get some in a small box expansion.

or a dunwich horror style token....

I think that's just a variant that was suggested by the designers. If it was an official change, I would have been playing it that way. As it is, I have a different house rule for her.

Exactly. Just for Dam.

This is so awesome! I guess will all the unbelievable amounts of cards and space it will take to use all of these together, I am going to have to invest in a bigger table! Now the hard part of the excitement is the waiting for this to come out!

Tibs, what's your Sister Mary house rule? We've played with several ones. I think the one we like best so far is that she starts with the Bless spell instead of a blessing herself.

Not to hijack the thread. I cannot wait to see what this expansion has to offer. I still need to get around to getting the other ones. I only have DH and KIY, and not so much money. I have to keep spending it on like, food or something.

I feel like the Zhar token will be something like the Dunwich Horror, and I can't wait to see what 16 new investigators will bring.

How many aquatic monsters were in KH anyway? Beyond that, looks like Innsmouth might give tokens so I can continue to skip KH. Should also note that not a reader of Lovecraft/Mythos, so while base game GOOs were semi-familiar, DH and later were/are just names to me.

The Sister Mary house rules are all good and fine, but they don't solve my biggest problem with her: what does she do when the game begins? She has no money, no clues, and poor weapons. She doesn't have much of a direction.

A while ago, on the old forums, I proposed that she start with 3 clue tokens, in addition to what she has, for these reasons:

• Her story mentions she read an old journal, that was thrown in the fire by Father Michael. The Old Journal item gives you three clues for reading it, and she doesn't start with that item because it was destroyed.

• I think that her starting Blessing was a bit overestimated when calculating her starting funds. On her official card, it adds up to $10. But I think it should be $4—worth the same as cashing in a gate at the Church, minus $1 for the flexibility of giving the blessing to anyone. This gives her $6 more.

• Ordinarily, clues are worth $2 in starting funds. This adds up to... 3 clue tokens! ;)

Probably related to an AO.

Yep I'd go for Deep Ones. Sand Dwellers would be a nice touch for a low level goon.

Not everyone has Kingsport. This is for the two streets in Arkahm that becomes aquatic. Personally I'd've prefer stickers, but I guess we could always make Bishops Brook Bridge Aquatic now.

Isn't Zhar a twin or something? Perhaps this AO actively tries to track you down!

And/or the Graveyard. On my first edition board it looks like the Miskatonic River goes right by it?

Kkch... I only have *your* name on my list. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and... NO AQUA FOR YOU!

I feel like the Zhar token will be something like the Dunwich Horror

Unlikely. The Dunwich Horror token was a regular monster token so I guess it would be counted as such.
