Innsmouth

By StarBurn, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok...so its now on the front page in the news section...can I explode of joy...or should I already call and the asylum and tell them to be sure to have rooms to spare?

What, you don't have a room with your name on it already?

Sounds like there will be Investigator specific Mission Type cards, a new board, as well as a deck that is only drawn from when an Investigator spends more then a certain number of turns on the Innsmouth Board.

don't forget the 16 new investigators....16 ...oh god...thats dunwich and kings port. And as I understand that story driven is individual to each investigator. XD

"The Shadow Over Innsmouth" was the first H.P.Lovecraft story I read in my life, and since then has remained one of my favourites by far. So I couldn't be more excited about finally being able to run around that damned town!!!!

I'm even keen on deliberately turning into a Deep One so I can just go have fun down in Y'ha-Nthlei while the rest of the team still tries to save the world... screw 'em... demonio.gif

I shall flood the streets of Innsmouth with my insane drooling. Dam/n beware! This time you shall not escape!

I wish they would've given more/better info. I just hope it's not that Android garbage rehashed. Whatever it is, they're focusing on it enough that they're giving us double the investigators!

Just never liked it when flavor text turned into game rules.

But im sad the didn't say anything about new AOs...I'm sure we need some...

There are 8 new Ancient Ones coming with Innsmouth apparently.

This is sweetness in physical form.. cannot wait to get my hands on this one.. that and perhaps a bigger table to fit everything..

16 new investigators and a more deep story behind every character is just want I wanted..

From this image: http://www.trictrac.net/reportages/centre/20090207_nuremberg/imagerie/181.jpg we can confirm a new boardpiece with 4-5 streetareas and as many locations... oh man I want this now...

Greetings, my first post here but I've been lurking around awhile I thought this might set up some more speculations the Products section under the Arkham Horror website was updated to show the contents of the Innsmouth box. Sorry if others already know this.

16 investigators and 8 Ancient Ones, hmm? It's entirely possible that this board is double size what the normal expansion boards are. I seem to remember someone saying, long ago on the older forums, that Innsmouth was going to be 2x size.

So now we know three GOOs; Ghatanothoa, Zhar and Bokrug. Obviously Dagon and Hyrdra will be in there somewhere, but they could be the heralds. Any guesses as to the other GOOs?

The artwork for the Beings of Ib and Zhar are both top notch as usual. Can't wait to see the rest of it.

Judging from the picture posted by Svavelvinter, it could still be possible but doesn't look like it... besides, the box contains as many Innsmouth Location cards as Dunwich, for instance... you'd think if it were a double sized board, there'd be more locations. Pure speculation from me, though.

From what I can see in that picture it seems there are no new Other Worlds and there are at least two vortices... interesting.

32 monster markers? My cup will explode.

Looks great though.

Initial thoughts"

Hallelujah! I've been waiting eagerly for the Innsmouth expansion and it is great to see it finally announced.

Atheral, your first post is a terrific one. Thank you for the list of contents!

16 Investigators and 8 Ancient Ones? That's double the other big box expansions. We knew this would be the last big board expansion, but they aren't just going out with a bang, they're going out with a BOOM! This gives me reason to think that my desire for THREE new Masks, one diamond, one plus, and another crescent moon, might well be fulfilled. And let's face it, one of the Masks has GOT to be the Wailing Writher. Am I right here?

I'm assuming the two Heralds will be Father Dagon and Mother Hydra, the two giant Deep Ones. Hopefully we'll get a five toughness monster token for each of them.

96 Personal Story cards, two for each Investigator. This is an intriguing idea and I'm especially looking forward to seeing Amanda Sharpe's cards, since her backstory makes it obvious that she is beginning the transformation into a full-fledged Deep One. I also hope Jenny Barne's card allows her to find her sister, or at least find out what happened to her sister . . .

I figured they would have three new Sinister Plot cards for each new AO, but its a relief to have it confirmed.

12 Small Dust cards? Does anyone understand this? Is there an AO that turns people into dust or whose dust has special properties?

6 Deep One uprising tokens? Does that sound ominious to anyone else here?

8 Ghatathoua's Visage tokens. I know that the sight of the big G petrifies humans, so this should be quite interesting.

1 Zhar token? Zhar is an Ancient One, so why would they need a token for him? Does anyone know?

Lastly, the Innsmouth Look deck apparently threatens to kill Investigators who stay in Innsmouth too long. Dunwich has five gates and the possibility of the Dunwich Horror awakening to encourage you to visit it. Kingsport virtually requires that you send an Investigator down there to handle the rifts. Yet Innsmouth might kill you for staying on the board too long? What kind of reversal is this?

I love the sound of this. I hope the Innsmouth look deck has a big effect. I am thinking something like trying to shut down the rifts in Kingsport, but having to send a different character up there ever few turns so you don't lose the one that is currently trying to patrol Kingsport. It would stop one player from feeling they are stuck on the small board all game, and would really make it more difficult trying to ferry the characters back and fourth.

Even if all of this blind specualtion is wrong... it looks great!

Key note: Innsmouth has Unstable Locations in it. You can tell from the little colored squares on the board that there will be gates opening in Innsmouth.

I agree with Frank, I see red dimonds on the board as well (Other Worlds I don't see, anyone done a CSI-esque in largement of the pic?). I don't think there will be a rifts mechanic because each expansion as only required the base set to run-- I don't think they would make one expansion dependant on another expansion.

EDIT: But there are vortices (sp?) on the board according to the picture

Good catch on the unstable locations. I'm good with that too :) Whether it is rifts, vorticies, or just gates, I still like the basic mechanic of not letting one single investigator stay up there too long. It has the potential to make moving the character's between the boards much more important.

It might make it very difficult to play a team of speed 3 characters...

I am picturing you riding around Innsmouth on some kind of demented Zomboni. A funnel and tubing are strapped to your chin with straight jacket sleeves. The funnel collects the ample drool as it runs from your gaping maw, and it runs down the tubing, continuously refuelling your hell-chariot. The whole thing has a very 70's film-based-on-a-Stephen-King-short-story feel to it. Did I mention that the Zomboni has a blood-specked slow-moving vehicle sign on the back, over which have been hand-painted the words "Keep on Truckin'?"

Dam, I'm sorry buddy, but you're basically screwed. As for Dan... forget about Dan. He bit it in the first act.

Cheers,
Chris

Are you kidding, Twilight? It's ALREADY very difficult to play a team of speed three characters!

You don't see other worlds, bioball, because there aren't any. Look at the list of components posted. There are no new gate tokens, thankfully, and a mere sixteen gate cards. That was a smart move on FFG's part, since we already have too many other worlds as it is, making it difficult to get cards specific to the other world you're in. If I want to just have "other" encounters every time, I'll go to Another Dimension, thanks.

Also, you'll notice that there are no new Common Items, Unique Items, Spells or Allies. That might disappoint some players, but I'm not one of them. As with Other Worlds, we have too many Allies and I personally like the current balance of the remaining three decks, assuming you include Dunwich and Kingsport.

Anyone have any answers to the questions in my previous post?

Very difficult indeed. But everyone loves a challenge, right :) That was part of my point... It could go from very hard to run to the asylum crazy... unless you manage to get your hands on multiple alternative means of transportation, a good map or two, and maybe a sparkly bauble that might help Even a gate box might become a little more precious.

It is a good point though... how hard will it make it? Since you might have to cycle through characters in Innsmouth, would it disuade people from playing with any 3 speed characters on their team. Hopefully there are other ways to get there (maybe a boat) that will make it a litte easier, but still make board management and moving characters a bigger challenge.

DEEP ONES!!!!.I am thrilled & a May released date which in FFG language means I have it in thim for my late October Birthday gran_risa.gif

I am very glad that there are no new allies—but no new items? That breaks my heart. Dilution was never an issue with items and spells, except for Elder Signs, but that was a good thing.

I personally am a bit disappointed that there aren't any new Other Worlds, but I also completely understand the problem with having more.

Not that it would be major alleviation, but I could imagine the gate cards being like this:

Red
4x Another Time / Unknown Kadath

Yellow
4x Lost Carcosa / Unknown Kadath

Green
4x Another Time / The Underworld

Blue
4x Lost Carcosa / The Underworld

Give the base game some more Other encounters for a change, and give us mix-enthusiasts some more flavor!
