Why are two pistols better than one?

By Corwin Stark, in Dark Heresy

I don't mean to add to the endless threads about pistols and combat but...

In the end, what is the great advantage of Two-Weapon Wielder (BS) if, according to the errata, you only get one shot with each gun?

Given the wealth of semi-automatic weapons out there, you could fire a single pistol on semi-auto, receive a +10 (rather than a minus) and potentially get three hits. You can spread those hits among multiple targets if they are within 2m.

As far as I can tell, by taking two weapon wielder, I would just be increasing my ability to target two opponents that are no more than 10m apart, but at a cost of both accuracy and rate of fire. Is this just a way to get two shots a round with those guns that don't support semi-auto?

Is it (semi-)official that you cannot fire semi- or full- auto when wielding guns in both hands? The rulebook was pretty clear about allowing it, but the errata seem to be clearly stating "single attack with each weapon."

I allow it, but handle it very differently.

When firing full or semi auto with two weapons, treat as a single attack with double the rate of fire, and an additional +10 bonus to hit.

It makes it modestly worthwhile, but not as sickly overpowered as allowing two seperate full-auto attacks.

easy, dual hand flamers

First of all, wielding two pistoles allows you to use the "Dual Shot" (p.114-115) which got "additional clearing" on the errata as well. Armour is applied against each shot in separate, but after that the TB is only subtracted from the sum of both shots damage. With an ever-growing number of "monsters" with unnatural toughness, I could at last think about a "rules mechanic reason" to carry two guns...even if I think the effect is a little...strange. But so is the whole TB-concept to me....

Second, the 10 meter "fall away" alltogether if you achieve the talent "Independt Targeting". With this talent, their is no limit on the distant. I suppose, the only limit is "must see both".

The rules do not say that you can only make a single 'shot' with each pistol. They say that you can make a single 'attack' with each pistol. A semi- or full-auto burst is still only a single attack. You can wield a pistol in each hand and make a full-auto attack with both of them.

The idea that a pistol mysteriously becomes only capable of single shots under certain circumstances is one of the strange rules from the old BI errata, which is best forgotten about.

Yes you can fire both weapons on any mode of fire...
