BoM vs IH Pure Faith & Corruption

By Burning Heretic, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

I feel like this has probably already been asked, but a forum search didn't turn anything up, so.

In the Inquisitor's Handbook it's mentioned that a character with more than 10 corruption points cannot use any faith talents and may not acquire new faith talents. In Blood of Martyrs, no such restriction is mentioned, but it does say that the Pure Faith rules in Blood of Martyrs are a 'stand-alone' system, separate from what's in the IH. Does that mean that, going by BoM, there is no corruption point restriction on Faith talents?

This is probably an oversight on the part of the writers. Corruption (IMO) would tend to fiddle significantly with the very premise and foundation of the idea of Pure Faith, hence the limit on Corruption Points. I recommend keeping the restriction, otherwise there is no mitigating mechanic to prevent a Confessor from confronting the Daemonic and failing to seek purification and cleansing after exposure to moral, physical and spiritual taint. "Hi. I have Pure Faith." Then the Psyker does a little stroll through his brain and thinks "LIAR! HERETIC! HOLOCAUST!"

I don't think it is an oversight. The general move in Blood of Martyrs is one to more powerful characters, and I think FFG doesn't like mechanics that can punish the players permanently for something.

Various mechanics in there I am not keen on, including the idea of "rituals" being talents for certain alternate ranks. It doesn't make much sense to me. Rituals are something you research and anyone can try (whether they are successful is another matter). It felt too much like a d&d cleric or something…

Also, the travesty of a rank 1 Sister of Battle…

Is there anyway to reduce corruption points, I know you can reduce Insanity points with the GM approval by spending 100 xp, because if there is then I would say stick with the 10 points of corruption cap because then if you can reduce your corruption points with xp then the character can always regain access to your Pure Faith powers. Otherwise, if there isn't, then I would say it's up to the GMs judgement for the cap or not but I would hate to see a player that spent a lot of xp into Pure Faith powers to be cut off from them without anyway to regain access to them.

I don't know of any way to remove corruption points. I agree it would really suck for a player who's spent a lot of xp on Faith talents to lose them, but on the other hand… I can potentially accept that characters with more than 10 corruption points could be able to use Faith powers. But for characters with Malignancies and/or Mutations? I just can't see that working.
