Anybody up for a 2012 scenario contest? - Entries due November 1st

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hey Jay,

Just wanted to say that I'm really happy you've pushed this idea forward. I think if WFRP v3 is going to survive/thrive it needs to get out into the community/cons and get played! I've been playing on the OWL on Obsidian Portal and its interesting to see such a global involvement albeit rather scant involvement from US folks. While the Pathfinder Society is almost all US crew. If the game community is going to grow its going to take contributions from the many not just FFG. Keep it up! I'm working on my 4 hour scenario Once More Into the Darkness Dear Friends. Its going to be set in a small village outside of Nuln with the PC's getting caught up in a smuggler/gang war…with an at times groan worthy nod to the good ol' Oldenhaller Contract. My goal is to have a scenario focusing on overwhelming odds that require the PC's to utilize all of their non-combat actions, talents, skills. Bringing some of the ideas from Liber Fanatica and its articles on Crime and the Old World.

A question I have is what kind of print quality should we be aiming for ? The look and feel of LF and Defenders of the Forest for example blow my mind with their quality…so between back of napkin/dot matrix style and LF, what's desirable ?

Thanks again for starting this contest.

Cheers,

Grolsch (Curt Jackson)

I'm going to use caslon antique for my headers and calibri for my body text. I'd go for readability and good writing over beauty, but innovation is king in this contest. We don't really have anything to go on so far from FFG as they are NOT known for their convention scenarios. For that prize, I'd look to what Paizo does for their Pathfinder Society games (not the dungeon-crawl-plots, but the layout and readability). I think parchment background makes for a hard to read scenario, but they look prettier so you'll have to test it out.

If you want a general guide on writing and grammar, PEG has one:www.peginc.com/about/writing-for-pinnacle/

I'm a graphic artist by trade, and I'd be willing to help layout someones adventure ( instead of writing one myself) if that would still earn me the same treasure spoils as writing an adventure. :-D

Yes. We've got lots of copies of Day Late, shilling short and the uncut career sheets. We've only got a few copies of Journey to blackfire pass, but I'll see if I can reserve a copy for the much thanks if you're with the winning adventure.

I would also like to throw my hat into the ring and offer up a scenario!

Welcome aboard!

If any of you would like early feedback on your ideas, send me the initial outline (short summary please), and I can give feedback.

Also, if you get stuck, let me know.

I am going to also write one, good luck to everyone.

Note: November 1st deadline approaching.

Remember, although we are aiming for convention-playable scenarios, any 10+ page WFRP3 scenario is acceptable.

Get those preliminary submission ideas in. Primary deadline is October 15th. We can extend it a bit if necessary. Final deadline is November 1st.

When can we (i.e. neither participants, judges or LF-crew) expect to get hold of the scenarios? Allthough I'm not actively participating I'm very interested in the resulting scenarios. All submitted scenarios will be available?

Also, for the record, in a future contest I'd love to submit a scenario given that I have the time (which I sadly did not have this time). I guess it's kind of soon, but do you have any thoughts on when or if you'll host another contest?

Thanks Jay for all the work you and all contestants are putting into the contest, I look forward to seeing the results. :)

The plan is to post any of them to the Liber Fanatica "Scenarios" page.

I'm not certain how many scenarios we will actually get. I think if we get 2-3 submissions, that would be realistic and that would take us about 2 days to review and judge. That leaves me with 79 copies of the printed DLSS to keep me warm this winter ;) I believe we were optimistic about people's interest in participating in a scenario contest, but still, something is better than nothing. The Sons of Sigmar contest seems to have gotten about 10 entries, but I don't know how the non-German fans will step up.

FFG has no plans to do any kind of official support anymore or any kind of official scenario contest (according to recent correspondance with their customer service..but my friend is still working on them). My guess is once they fill the role of the associate gopher position (see other thread), some aspects of WFRP support may re-arise in a GOOD WAY :)

Could you please explain the difference between these deadlines? What do participants need to have done by October 15th?

There's really only a final deadline of November 1st. The other deadline was a preliminary deadline (October 15th), that got moved back to November 1st to accommodate a couple people. :)

We look forward to your entry.

Remember, submissions can be sent directly to me at: [email protected]

Deadline is today: November 1st by Midnight Mountain Standard Time. I've already received the first couple entries.

If you have a partially completed submission, send what you've got.

Send scenario to: [email protected]

Well alrighty' then! Here is the link to the scenarios: gallery.rptools.net/v/contrib/emirikol7/WFRP3+SCENARIO+CONTEST+ENTRIES/

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take a moment to look each one over and VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE AND RUNNER-UP!

Email your votes to: [email protected] and I'll tally them up anonymously. I'll announce a winner later this week. The authors would like feedback on content or whatever and you can send that with your vote.

If any of you plan on making late entries, they are welcome and we will put them up on the Liber Fanatica site with these entries. Although you can't win, I'll still happily mail you an official printed copy (the real deal) of the Day Late, Shilling Short scenario.

For those of you who've never used the RPTOOLS gallery site before you'll see the DOWNLOAD button at the BOTTOM of the picture of each scenario where it says' "Download document in original format ".

Only four entries? sad.gif Too bad.

I will do my best to vote. When would it be the deadline?

And Thanks for your efforts for the community,

Yepes

A week is kind of a short time to read them through carefully and vote. I'd love to do it, but with a full time job and a lot of activities on my spare time (playing WFRP among other things) I'll not be able to vote and give feedback so soon, especially since one of the scenarios is 46 pages long. It would be a lot better if the winner was announced the 16-18 November or something.

While there are only 4 entries there is good stuff in them.

I have read only two of them, and they seem to be on the same timescale as Eye for an Eye. So four of these Babies will keep my Group happy for four month.
