A new series of deluxe expansions replacing monthly packs for Call of Cthulhu?

Indeed, but none for Cthulhu packs, which were my favourite thing to walk home with - the art and the game itself always has me excited. I collect the LotR cards too now though so there will still be that, but I will always miss the thrill of the pack. I am, however, drawing enormous comfort from the arrival of new AOs! and Prophecy! very cool.

I agree though, the change is necessary and constructive. My LGS is crammed and the little boxes are a big headache for them, especially when only a few of each are sold and the rest pile up. Just finding what someone asks for requires a Library Use roll.

This is very true. I think that was something of a last ditch effort, but it ended up selling so well that they decided to convert the other games into LCGs as well. The very same thing could happen here. Cthulhu is the guinea pig and if it is a huge success, don't be surprised if other LCGs follow suit.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that the core set and deluxe expansions fly off the shelf, but the packs languish in place :).

Might as well keep it fresh, after 6-7 cycles of asylum packs, maybe it's time to break the routine. Everyone on this post seems to be down, so count me in.

From a meta standpoint, it takes some focus away from deck building and puts it on playing, even with different factions. Frickin amen to that one.

And as others have mentioned, it opens the mind (and wallet) to other LCG's like NetRunner -- geek on!
