Have the basics: want to expand Mart.,Lann.,Targ. with chapter packs

Hey all. I've been creeping these forums, the FFG forums, and the card DB articles pretty heavily and it's really been very useful in starting out and letting me get a bigger picture of things, so thanks to you all! I've grabbed 2x core sets and all the deluxe sets, so now I need to figure out chapter packs. I don't want to splurge much more (I got a lot of the stuff on trade credit) being a poor student, so help me prioritize some chapter packs purchases if you please!Hey all. Now I have a better idea of what I want. I really prefer control gameplay, and want to play control with Lannister, Targaryen, and Martell. With what I have already I'm confident I can switch to other play-styles as well and at least try them out, but for now this is what I'd like to focus on. I'll probably toy a bit with some opportunistic/ control-ish greyjoy as well if I can.

I've read the first tilts for expanding the 3 factions of my interest, and though I learned lots, the actual themes didn't look as interesting (especially clansmen and dothraki, sand snakes are alright). Two separate articles, who focused on martell control and control in melee (Targaryens mostly) really piqued my interest and so that's what I'd like to lean towards. I get the impression King's Landing (shadows?) and maybe summer type cards are what I'm looking at, but I could really use experienced help.

So, if you had to pick around +/- 6 chapter packs (flexible in number) to build towards the control kind of play-style with these factions, which would they be (considering what I already own). Let me know!

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The Maester cycle would be a good one: you get the agenda, chains, plots, and Maester characters to fill out decks. Maesters excel at control type effects, so this would be a good start. I also think the tale of champions cycle is a good one. I prefer stacking entire cycles rather than a pack here and there.

Indeed. On a student budget, it can be useful to choose your favorite House, decide what kind of deck you'd like to play with that House and then pick and choose Chapter Packs based on that. However, because you're planning to build upon multiple Houses' strengths simultaneously, it's definitely a good idea to work your way through a strong CP cycle, then another, and so on, until you have a good supply for each House. I also like the suggestion of starting with Secrets of Oldtown as it has strong control elements. That being said, I would also take a look at the current cycle, Beyond the Narrow Sea, as it's been designed with new players such as you and me in mind.

With the reprint out now I would get Refugees of War. Almost every deck you build will have 3x in house refugee.
