Servants of the Imperium (comic)

By Evilscary, in Dark Heresy

Here you go, episode #42:

Servants_of_the_Imperium_42_by_evilscary

The website will hopefully be back up just after Christmas, I will let you all know when it is.
Thanks to everyone who's been so supportive the last week; it's really rebuilt my faith in humanity that strangers could be so kind and generous.

CRasterImage: You're right; I can't sell anything that uses GWs copywrite; nothing containing any of their brand names, race names, depictions of those races, etc. I'm currently looking into the legality of accepting donations for website upkeep; but that's something seperate entirely so it won't infringe GWs products.

I'm being VERY cautious from now on; I've been burned once by what I thought was a harmless hobby.

Merry Christmas you lot!

-Edit-

Blast, the forum's not wide enough! To see the whole comic, right-click and select 'View Image'.

thank u very much and merry christmas :)

Note that this is not legal advice, and I am not a lawyer. I do have some knowledge in this area. That said laws differ greatly from place to place. Also some companies are their own worst enemies when is comes to fan material. Finally a company can sue no matter how poor the merits of their case is.

You might consider:

1) Make a pay pal account just for comic donation. Then insure that you don't mix this account with other money. You could use it for the site, even drawing software, and the like. You could even write check for something comic related, and then transfer the same amount into your account.

2) Make a link to said paypal account on the comic page and say it's for web site, and other comic expenses.

3) Make you have the standard trademark notice that everyone use for GW.

4)Send an email to FF, and GW with a link to the site. Be polite. Make sure they know you are a big fan. Express that you'd be happy for any suggestions for better respecting their rights. Also inquire if they have a faq on fan work.

This gives you some cover if they ever come after you. You made an effort insure that you weren't profiting from the comic. You made them aware of it. Which means you showed good faith, and if they didn't objected in a timely manner it's even more favorable to you.

PS- You might want to consider doing a more generic space, or other comic as well. Certainly you are good enough to publish a book if you can build up a following. (Of course that might actually be less fun than an occasional comic.)

I'd say that if you don't give anything else in return (a.k.a. wallpaper, no secret strips, etc...) there is nothing wrong with collecting money from donation to help you run your website. And throw-in a link to Games Workshop's website for good measure and tell if people want to buy Warhammer 40K material, they should go to that website instead, since all money sent to you is pure donation.

I doubt lawyers would have much ground to do anything about you.

Keep up the great work!

It's not a matter of making money out of one's intellectual property, it's all about helping a buddy who's got some money troubles.

That was my view when I made the suggestion :)

great new pic and let us know what helps you out :)

Hope you all had a good Christmas ( I did) and have a Happy New Year

Happy belated Christmas to you all! Here's number 43.

Hopefully the SotI site will be back up within a week or so, but I'm being a bit cautious with webhosts and such; I don't want another big bill!

Love the joint looks. Krin may be 'delayed' in escaping if his greed gets the better of him.

Nice one! Always like Krin, I´ve got that feeling, that Briana´s hair under the synskin would turn ashen:D:D oh, by the way, plan beta is "Run like a frak!!!" (according to the Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium)

great stuff thanks :)

Idea struck my mind Evilscary: don´t you think about creating facebook account for Servants of the Imperium, where you could publish new strips and extras? (even if not, I would like to become SotI faceboofficialy:) )

I realize I'm going to come off as hopelessly outdated and out of touch, but I have purposely turned my back on all things facebook. I've resisted all attempts from my family, real-world friends, and colleagues bring me over to the face-side. For family information exchange and updates there is Geni.com, for work there is internal email, for friends there is regular email or messenger (if I choose to sign in), and for everything else I have interest in there are forums, news-letters, and pod-casts. I have no good reason or desire to poke (or be poked, defenestrated, hive-fived, chest-bumped, toasted, hugged, winked at, or b!+ch-slapped by) people I barely know just because they went to school with my sister-in-law's former babysitter's boyfriend's prom-date. enfadado.gif

Those who ask to be my friend or I ask to be my friend on this forum can always email if they so choose. Personally I like the idea of requesting friends on this forum, only because I have more confidence that we have somethings in common than I would with most of those I've ever received friend requests from on facebook.

Should Evilscary choose to create a facebook account for SotI, I would hope there would be other ways of enjoying their exploits other than facebook alone.

That's all I have to rant about at this time.sonrojado.gif Please feel free to continue the well deserved praise for Evilscary's artistry and wit.

I'm afraid I won't be making a Facebook SotI account; I'm one of those people who hates Facebook!

I think it automates your social life, and I have no time for it.

Sorry guys!

Hopefully the SotI website will be back up within a week or so.

Number 44 now up!

I've tried reducing the size (for this forum only) to fit it in the window... let's see if it works.
The website will (finger's crossed) be back up for the next episode.

First!

Verily, that's a man whose priorities are right.

Boobs > Loot > Survival.

Allways nice when a new page of Servants is out, keep up the good work!. The How many guns are you carrying? joke has become somewhat of a running gag in our gaming group and tends to crop up once every session or two.

The 'How many guns' strip is actually based on a real-life comment during a game a player of mine was in.

Me too....

Is more or less what the guardsman asked, astonished to the ASSASIN.... (Two autoguns.... pistol handgrip.... oh my god... what have i done....)

"Hey, you owe me boobs!" is one of the best lines ever.

Funny and brilliant as ever.

I've just discovered this comic and i love it!!!!!

is so funny..... i can't wait for another number

Really reminds me a bit of how the Ultimates.

"Three Ph.D's and the only idea you could think of was to flash him?!?"

-=Giant Man to Wasp after she flashes the Hulk's to get his attention=-

This weeks update.

Things with the new website are taking some time I'm afraid; it's very hard to find a host which can provide the bandwidth I need for the prices I'm willing to pay. As this is only a hobby for me I'm not prepared to shell out huge ammounts of money for a website.

Anyhoo, have some comic!
