Is anyone seriously considering buying the upcoming map pack?

By TeufelHund666, in Tide of Iron

I have heard that the new art will better match the expansions (particularly Normandy) and with 2 sets of maps you can play the giant scenario in the Designer Series book, but seriously I can't see any reason to pony up for this map pack beyond that, and frankly I don't really consider those minor considerations to be worth the cost.

Frankly I find the maps in the base pack fine as is.

I also do not have a problem with the base set maps, but I am going to buy the map set anyway... happy.gif

(cannot-have-too-many-map-boards) Klaus

Well, I'm gonna buy it for sure.

I'd rather have a copy of the base game than just the maps... you double your plastic that way... with a different coloration between normandy & the base game map boards, it's as if a cloud is over part of the board--with using normandy overlays, it looks fine and uniquely colorful.

I'll see what those who pick it up immediately think (& with pics on BGG, etc.) and I may invest down the line.

Speaking of buying additional copies of the game. Our local game store just went out of business and was selling TOI for 75% off, so it was $20.00. I should have bought all they had. I bought my copy at 50% off but didn't buy any at 20. Now they are closed.

Sure, I'll buy them. It'll indeed give us more options when constructing scenarios as far as terrain is concerned. That said, I have to admit I like the original artwork better (basegame).

sound s like you should have...A mall calendar store had it at 50% off so i waited a week and it went to 75% the lady told me she gave it to her 8 yr old grandson to just play with THE INSANITY

i prefer the new art but the old boards are just fine i have no problem with them but im still going to buy the map pack

I'm definately going to buy the new map pack, everything so far has been superb. gran_risa.gif

Dude that is a steal

wow this forum software sucks :(

Given that I am moving overseas in a year, I do not think I will buy the map pack. A **** shame, to be honest.

Hi,

I won't!

I didn't buy Normandy.

I did buy Designer's series (very interesting and fun scenarios, so far!).

Why am I answering that question? Because I wanted to say: I'm waiting for some big expansion s covering the Eastern Front! This is why I'm holding back my money! gui%C3%B1o.gif

(Oh! And I really hope that in those great Eastern Front expansion s , tanks scale will be consistent. I'll make sure of this before I buy.)

I don't know where " overseas" is in this case, but if you mean Europe you should be able to find players there too. The game is sold here ( in Holland) as well.

Well it is Europe (London), but what I meant is that I can't really buy more games to take over; I just can't afford to ship them with me. I'd rather just buy the expansion when I get to the UK.

So the map pack is just the maps from the base game with better colors?

No new maps?

That's my understanding...now if it was new maps with a few scenarios thrown in it might be interesting, but as it stands, it doesn't have much appeal (for me).

If it includes the single/double/triple terrain hexes I might consider buying it.

I'd rather buy just the maps, for the huge battles, than another copy of the base game. Saves money for me. The ad says it will also come with the cardboard from the original game, like the obstacles and stuff like that. I can't imagine that it wouldn't come with the overlays too

Here's what they have posted on here...

"Tide of Iron: Map Expansion #1

Tide of Iron puts players in thick of WWII. The Tide of Iron Map Upgrade pack lets players update their original map boards with brand new artwork and enhanced colors. Players can also use these with their existing Tide of Iron boards to create epic level battles.

Also included is the cardboard from the base game with upgraded obstacles such as tank traps, bunkers, and hills, giving players much more flexibility when creating custom scenarios and recreating famous battles."

Ah yea, there it is, "Hills". Sounds like it comes with the overlays then. aplauso.gif

I'm really looking forward to setting up the 2 on 2, Round One scenario, by Dana Lombardy & Bill Jaffe from the designers series book! It looks freakin' awsome! cool.gif

24 map sections! That map is going to be a 42" x 45" monster! sorpresa.gif My kitchen table is 4 1/2 feet x 4 1/2 feet, and will be just barely big enough to set this beast up on...where the hell are we going to roll the dice! sorpresa.gif

That, plus this is being billed as map expansion "#1", I like that. aplauso.gif I keep saying this on here, but when this game goes Eastern Front, map expansions like this are going to be super cool. If not just to allow the larger scenarios, but maybe they'll throw in stuff like "Stalingrad map Expansions". That and I'd love to see map expansions like Bastogne, Arnhem, Crete, Anzio, Guadalcanal and Kasserine Pass.

At $29.95, it's a great deal as far as I'm concerned for 12 fantastic looking, double sided hard mounted maps; overlays; and other various markers and game pieces.

I can't wait for the map pack #1 myself... babeo.gif

Oh! Those three, I'll buy! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Does the monster scenario in the book require units from two box sets to play in addition to the maps? If so, the map pack won't be enough to play that scenario.

Not to kvetch and moan, but it is ridiculous that they changed the map style for the expansion and then expect you to drop another $30 on an already expensive game to make the parts they provided look like they belong in the same game. Why should I have to make my original game match an expansion? It isn't like graphic design or printing technology has advanced by leaps and bounds since the inception of the game. And I can't imagine the fact that the boards in the expansion look better than the boards in the original is going to make anyone more likely to buy the game. If anything, it makes me aprehensive to buy any more expansions.

When I got the Normandy expansion and realized the boards didn't match, I was bummed.

So, no, i won't be buying the map pack and am pretty ticked off at the audacity of FFG to do something like this. $30 for 12 pieces of cardboard to fix a problem of their own making? Uh...no thanks. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.

What's next? Re-buy the minis from the first set so that the scale is consistent? You know that is coming sometime...

Anyway, I still love this game and this company.

"Anyway, I still love this game and this company."

Me too. I'm having real fun with the Designer's scenarios. They are tricky, clever, really different in design than most straightforward attack-defense scenarios found in the basic game (which are useful to learn the mechanic of the game though).

I suspect they where not happy with the original art and decided to improve on it. I imagine future expansions will have the same improved art. I would like to see what they look like before i order though.

Aw shucks, the pieces... serio.gif

...and so go the best laid plans of mice and men. llorando.gif

I thought the epic one (mind you I don't have my book handy at work) has the reinforcements spread out so that you only need double card board and one set of plastic...
