New player and I had a few things that came up in a recent game...

By danbellinger1, in Talisman

1. While playing with the Reaper expansion the Carnival landed on a Draw One Card space that already had a Market on it. The question is, do they both exist on the same spot? Does the Carnival skip that space? If they co-exist, what happens when a player lands on it? Does the player pick one, is it chosen based on the encounter number, or does the player perform both?

2. To pass through the Portal of Power or Sentinel, do you have land on it or can you simply get a high enough move roll to pass (if you defeat the sentinel or force/pick the lock) on the same turn?

3. When becoming a toad, do you loose all objects and followers on the space or do they come back when you transform back?

4. And finally, for the Warlock's cave, can you immediately complete the quest, or do you have to leave and come back (and land directly) on the Warlock's cave?

Sorry if these have been answered previously, but was unable to find them using the search. Also, I fully support a sacntioned list of errata and FAQs.

#1: They can co-exist. Rules say resolve them in order they were drawn, I play alphabetical, that way don't need to keep tabs which card was drawn before which

#2: You need to pass, so X+1 (at least), where X is the number of space to reach Sentinel/PoP.

#3: You drop them, might be able to get them back after you revert back if you manage to land on that space during a later turn. And nobody's nicked them yet.

#4: You can complete the Quest immediately. Also, I don't think you have to return to the Cave even if you later complete the Quest, Warlock has magic through which he senses your completion of his Quest.

Nothing to add to Dam's answers, except a couple of points for question #4. You MUST complete your quest immediately, if able, i.e. you can't wait for a crappy object/Spell to discard. Furthermore, when you complete your Quest the Warlock immediately teleports you back to the Cave and gives you a Talisman. When you complete the quest, your Turn ends in the Warlock's Cave.

I have a question too. What about the rule: the Warlock will prevent any character who has accepted a quest from opening the Portal of Power until he has first completed his quest (page 17)?

I always believed and ruled that if you gain a Talisman while on a quest, the quest can be abandoned. What's the purpose of the above rule, then? The only reasons for Character with no Talisman to open the Portal are:

- to attack a Character on the Plain of Peril (I think it's a bit late to steal Objects if they're not Talismans! Another reason might be to complete a Warlock's Quest and in two players you may lose the game because of this rule)

- to gain a Talisman from the Hermit if he's on the Plain of Peril

The point I'm try to make is: why does such a rule exist, if not to force a Character to complete his quest anyway, even if he finds a Talisman in the meantime?

Both points above are valid, but I think the main concern would be Transference... **** the spell!

Reading the Rule book thru a few times helps too.
