I'm pretty sure that Treachery cards revealed as Shadow cards don't take effect unless they specifically have a Shadow effect. Am I mistaken?

You are correct. Any card revealed as a Shadow Card only triggers its "Shadow:" effect. Everything else on the card is ignored.
