New here

By Tush Hog, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hello everyone! New to whfrp 3. I'm going to run a session in two weeks hopefully. I'm absorbing the rules now.

My first introduction to the world of Warhammer was through the Gotrek and Felix novels. Has anyone attempted to stat Gotrek in 3e? I would love to see what a really powerful character would look like compared to a starting character.

Look forward to hanging out here!

Hi there and welcome!

Well, enjoy your group in two weeks time. If you are interested in a plethora of good GM tips, player-made GM materials and valuable feedback to your questions, you've certainly come to the right forum. You'll find a high concentration of wfrp fanatics here, most of them GM-ing like you.

There's quite a backlog of posts you might want to read to read through in the general section, the GM section and the two rules sections.

As to your question, no, I haven't seen any stats for that character. The supplement that provides information for high-level PCs would be 'Hero's Call'. I certainly comes with rank 4 and 5 careers, some of them for the slayer types. It even has some high-powerded NPCs as cards, but I don't recall Gotrek being one of them.

In any case, the modular toolbox character of the third edition makes it fairly easy to piece together something fitting for the stats of a special NPC.

Enjoy your time here,

Hero's Call does stat up Grey Seer Thanqol, though. I don't remember if one of the Bonerippers is in there or not.

Having recently completed the second omnibus I was thinking about this a while back, even just figuring out how many careers they've had. At the start of the first stories Felix is probably somewhere in the middle of his third career, if you assume he completed Student and Agitator. My personal expereince suggests he'd be third or fourth rank by then, which strikes me as slightly more competent than how he's described at the start. It's more likely he didn't fully complete either of those (I forget, does that work in 3rd?), and I'm not sure what career he'd be in during the start of his adventures (he probably eventually moved into Mercenary). Professional adventurers, such as Felix, seem to be the break-down in the career system. (Which suggests to me Warhammer isn't suppoosed to have professional adventurerers, but then that goes against the fiction…)

Gotrek is harder to judge since we don't (or at least I don't) have a lot of information on his background. He was probably on his second or third career when he went into Slayer, and as a Troll Slayer gets to mid- or late rank 2 he can do the sort of damage Gotrek is described at.

Gotrek starts out as a trollslayer right? He uses an axe. He has a REALLY LOW fellowship.

I start him out as 5 or 4 strength, and 5 or 4 toughness. He has a 2 FEL for sure.

Trollfeller strike and reckless cleave for base actions.

Talents?

Yeah, but no way was he a Rank One starting character even in his first appearance.

Sure, he had a bunch of hits, but he's called a Trollslayer then, and from my game experience, he was just as powerful as any other trollslayer (I wouldn't say any more than any other one IMHO). Whilst he and Felix are in the deep caves, they talk a lot about him not being able to fight the Three Hearts and Three Lions - like regenerating troll forever due to eventual fatigue. He was not tough enough to defeat the troll without the fire that one of his companions provided.

What is important to remember, is Gotrek's axe ;) he may have been a "trollslayer", but if you have read the books and knows the rules of warhammer fantasy battles(look him up) he is quite nasty. He by far outranks any playable "career" in the later books. Gotrek the Allslayer, now thats a career to aim for !

Thanks folks!
