How many houses do most people play?

By Ulairi, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Do most people only play one (or a couple) houses? I'm new to the game and I'm wondering if most people just collect ALL the cards so they can play any house/deck or do they stick with one or two houses and just collect those? The reason I ask is that there are a lot of cards out there and I'm wondering how to progress with my collection.

Thanks!

It's pretty common to start with one or two Houses. Some people stick with just the one or two, some play them all. Myself I have decks for all the Houses, but prefer a couple over the others so I tend to play them the most. But I also was able to get the entire cardpool before some of them got hard to find (soon to be remedied for a bunch of them, thankfully).

As a new player, a couple of Core sets and a House expansion are usually sufficient to build a deck you'll enjoy playing while you get used to the game. What you do from there depends on your playstyle and your budget.

What Amuk said. I myself play all six houses. One player in my meta plays only two houses, another plays all but two. It's all about personal preference.

For you, it will be best to choose one house/build you'd like to explore, identify the cards you want to expand it and buy the packs they're in. The house box for that house will be the logical starting point.

i play 3. dont care for the play style of lanni targ or bara.

I think I'll start with House Stark or House Greyjoy and continue on from there. I don't mind buying all the cards but then I feel I'll be overwhelmed by the card selection. I think starting a card game mid stream is much more difficult than starting at the begging. I have been playing the Lord of the Rings game and it has come easy to me how to build the decks.

I have 2 decks for Baratheon, 3 for Stark, and 1 Martell.

I've got Stark, Targ, and Martell pretty much always built in some version. I dabble with GJ, and Lanni is my "fun" deck. Bara is untouched, although I might have to dust it off with these latest packs. And lest I forget, Neutral is for Neds. lengua.gif

I play a lot of Bara/Targ/Martell, and a little Lannister. I do have decks for GJ and Stark, but dislike their playstyle.

I started off thinking that I was going to play almost all of the houses, and I truly mean to eventually. But it turns out that two houses fit my playstyle best and I am most comfortable playing with them. This builds on itself as the more comfortable I get with one or two houses, the less likely it is that I will go outside of my comfort zone and play a "new" house. And if I do go outside my comfort zone and inevitably get squashed in my first game or two with the new house, I will likely go back to my comfortable standbys.

I build decks from all houses, because I always want to try everything. That being said, I usually end up playing Stark, Lanni, and Bara. They have the most fun cards, and I like having fun.

I build decks for all houses myself.

My comment was very valuable to this forum topic.

in melee i play all, i play 5 in joust, not because of preference but because i can't make a targ joust deck that isn't horribly bad

What I did was start playing the game with just the coreset and a few friends. We all got a chance to try out the 4 core houses and decide which ones we liked best. Then a friend and I split the houses evenly (she liked Stark and Lannister best mostly because of the books and took Martell because I wanted Greyjoy). So, we each have 3 houses and buy cards together, splitting the chapter packs. It causes problems as far as neutral cards go, but overall it lets you get a lot of cards without spending a lot. Since there are 3x every card, we can split the plot cards and one per deck locations, etc.

I highly recommend doing this unless you want to play more than 3 houses or you have lots of cash. It's also fun to open chapter packs with a friend and make deals for who gets what. I'm not someone who builds 12 different decks, so never being able to try a Brotherhood deck isn't a huge issue for me. And if there is ever a neutral card that one person wants to try out that the other isn't using, we can always trade or borrow from each other.

I have played all of the houses in the time I've been playing, though in general I tend to play Martel, Targ and Lannister, as they tend to be the best match for my play style. But I like to play all the houses every so often just to keep aware what those houses are up to.
