Attacking weapons Directly. aka sunder

By Clutch_Halthos, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

So I dont remember seeing it in the rules but is there a way to attack a weapon directly? I loved using the sunder technique when I ran other RPG's as it forced the players to rely on themselves, their skills and their tactics rather than their shiny gear. Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me come up with some rules?

I was thinking somethign along the lines of all weapons have a base of 10 HP and then get bonuses depending on what type they are, craftsmanship etc. Pistols have 15 HP basic weapons have 20 and Heavy have 25-30 HP. Good quality will have an extra 5 HP and Best quality will give an extra 10, poor quality will take away 5-10 HP. in addition reliable will give an extra 5-10 while unreliable will be -5-10. For melee weapons i'd say small weapons (knife sized) would count as pistols, sword sized would count as basic weapons and 2 handed weapons would count as heavy weapons. Attacking a weapon would be like making a called shot and the normal rules would apply as such. If the hit connects damage is rolled normally. if the weapon reaches 0 HP then it is destroyed.

What do you think?

Pg. 147, IH (Inquisitor's Handbook) it talks about Lathe Blades and gives a description of "cannot be destroyed by the effects of a power field and counts as having an Armour value of 25 if directly attacked."

I'm under the assumption that all weapons/armour/etc have only 1 Wound, but all of them have an individual Armour rating to signify how easily/hard they are to destroy. And the Lathe Blade is considered a best craftmanship weapon too, so you can derive your system from that. I mean, I guess you can give them Wounds (HP) also, but why try to keep track of that and a character's health? This thought process of mind is contributed by the 'Keep it simple silly' (KISS) rule. gran_risa.gif
