Main weapons, and specialist starting gear

By KommissarK, in Game Mechanics

Alright, I'm probably missing something real obvious here, but is it covered anywhere on how the notion of "main weapon" with regards to starting kit works with the extra gear the specializations provide. I.e. if the regiments kit includes a lasgun, I'm fairly certain the Heavy Gunner gets one, alongside the issued missile launcher/heavy bolter. Correct?

How much ammunition for the heavy bolter does the heavy gunner have? The same amount of reloads they have for their "main weapon"?

How about a commissar's bolt pistol? Do they replace any existing "main weapon" they might have as standard kit? How many clips do they have?

Part of this is trying to determine how much I like the Well Provisioned equipment doctrine.

I THINK you get the specialist weapons in addition without a logistic test. They are like "yours". Without them you can't function as said specialist.

Yes, but how much ammo is considered standard kit for these weapons? And if the regiment's kit contains a lasgun, everyone keeps that lasgun? (e.g. commissars have lasguns? stormtroopers have lasguns in addition to their hot shot (its called a hellgun *@&)*!# why change that up)?)

I know they changed it, but it still makes no sense; how do you call a las-weapon now with hot-shot charge packs?

And I'd say they are still issued the standard gear from the Munitorum, becaused it doesn't care what or who you are; if there are 20000 active personnel in a regiment, they'll issue (hopefully) 20000 sets of standard gear. If they keep it or not is up to them, but a spare gun is always useful, especially for the Commissar, considering the low ammo count of the bolt pistol (40 round won't get you far).

As for the ammo count, I'd say 4 clips, as it seems to be the standard for primary weapons, sidearms having 2.

In the recent one-shot I ran, I saw similar problems. I ended up saying that any specialisation equipment was surplus to regiment standard; ie. ours was drop troops, so everyone had las-carbines, in addition to whatever they picked up from their specialisation. This resulted in some unusual stuff (for instance, an Ogryn with a lascarbine it's impossible for them to useā€¦), but generally, we just regarded it as has been said above: "The regiment is 5000 men strong, the munitorum provides 5000 lascarbines. Whether yours makes it into your standard pack is your own call."

As for ammunition, I pretty much planned to vary it based on situation. This was a drop infiltration mission, so I went for 4 clips for all guns they were carrying, but I probably would have erred on the side of 3 clips for a "standard" loadout, as they can always refuel at base mid mission for most scenarios. I think, as in reality, what kind of supplies troopers are issued with depends entirely on the mission parameters.

Of course, any supplies for a mission apart from standard kit probably have to be aquired via the always hillarious munitorum logistics roll! :D

The book notes somewhere (probably under standard kit, but I can't be bothered to look that up right now) that yes, you do get your main weapon and other stuff, even if you have and use something else due to your specialization. Whether you use it or leave it at base is up to you, but there may be situations where you're grateful for having a backup weapon in your locker.

If only to be able to show it when the CO makes the inspections and doesn't have you executed for not having a rifle and/or ammunition to go with it.
