UFS HQ for Path of the Master?

I dont blame FFG for wanting to put this event at their headquarters, its a cool angle. I do blame them for ONLY placing it at their headquarters and having no other way to access the cards.

just my 2 cents

and do you blame them for only having a chance to get a champ card at Nats or Worlds? or is it a school year vs a summer thing?

GeneralReaction89 said:

for everyone saying that players had plenty of time to set aside money for this event, you guys can speak only for yourselves. For people like me and most of the ATL group that have school to deal with, as well as all sorts of other expenses, we cant justify the decision to fly across the country just to get these promos. here's a thought, why not let ppl mail in the patches as a way to redeem them. I mean i worked with Zi Mei and Yi Shan so why cant we do it here. I dont blame FFG for wanting to put this event at their headquarters, its a cool angle. I do blame them for ONLY placing it at their headquarters and having no other way to access the cards.

I have School, Car payments, Rent, and food as well.

I still managed to set money aside

Because a redemption program totally defeats the purpose of the patches. It's like:

"Hey I got a great idea! Lets spend $7,000 getting a ton of patches made of resource symbols and hand them out as prizes for a whole year."

"Sounds cool, then what?"

"Then they mail them back to us and we send them a promo card, that cost us about 5 cents to produce, for each patch they sent us. It will be so cool."

"Ummmmm so why spend the $7,000 on making patches if they are just going to send them back to us and we will just end up trashing them?"

"Because."

We have known about this for a year. There is ONE event in NORTH AMERICA (yes that includes Canada people) so MN is actually a pretty central location for everyone. Yes some people will have to travel farther then others, but having it in a central location is best for everyone. Lets say they have in on the West Coast, then everyone on the East Cost is pissed off. They have it on the East Cost the West Cost is pissed off. They have it in FL everyone in the North is pissed off. You get the point. What it really comes down to is people are getting pissed off because it's not close enough for them. The people that are bitching where it's located at probably would think this is the greatest thing ever if it was 2 hours away from them. They are also the people that usually won't travel more then a few hours to a event no matter what (besides GenCon maybe). The people that travel will travel to the event the people that don't travel will *****, end of story.

Here's my two cents on the issue:

Sure, it sucks you can't redeem the patches for the promo that you want, but let's look at it this way. The actual prize of winning the patches was entry into the end tournament of the POTM cycle of promotion. The promo card you refer to wanting redemption for is simply the participation promo of said event, and you get more copies of it for each time you qualify for the event, which is signified by how many of the patches you have collected.

Also, I realize that I'm in a pretty central location for most big tournaments (I live in Michigan), but you have to understand that any invitational level event, of which this is, would likely either be set in a large location or at a convention. Now imagine having to travel to the event and still pay for convention, like many of us do for Nationals and Worlds.

I think instead of only complaining about how their location of tournament, which, while unfortunate for you, is nothing out of the ordinary in TCGs...why don't you actually look at how it is for their overall market. I'm sorry that you don't feel it's worth coming up from VA for the event, I really do. That aside, you yourself say that you were aware of this event and it's nature quite some time ago. This gives you plenty of time to set into motion either someone to mule for you, or to carpool with you.

The major thing I wanted to get across is that the actual redemption of these patches was entry into this tournament, which you must be in the location of the tournament to redeem. The promo is only incidental to your entry into the tournament.

A central location just means it's far for everyone (except, y'know, those peeps living in said central location).

I've my problems with this event, but I've already expressed my views earlier on, I've already contacted the proper instances asking about certain aspects of the event in question, I've gotten the answers I may not want to get, but a good answer anyway, and I moved the hell onto another, more worthy battlefield. Let's face it, if they want to pull this stunt again, they know a lot of people still won't like it, but at least they'll be better prepared and perhaps do something about the lack of accessibility for those that are more on the edges. Now's the time not to have the event "canceled", but to make sure that more people have accessibility to the event next time around if next time there is.

As far as my earlier responses in this thread? Honestly, other than the one I edited as per hearsay (Heard someone really didn't like the post, so I edited), these were friendly warnings - Do things the "right" way or be ridiculed. I never said it would be by me (now, let's face it, it was heavily implied, but at this stage anyone who sees me as more than a troll has either talked to me extensively on such matters or met me for realz, and even then for some folks that's uncertain as I distinctly remember a statement on the forums that spilled into RL. That was funny.), as I know a lot of people on these forums definitely love to do what I did earlier on (And that is to jump on so-called whine/petition posts and just yell "SHUT UP YOU DOUCHEBAGS YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING" or the equivalent of such, tempted to name people here but I won't. Not because of taking the higher moral ground, way past that point, but mostly because some of them are debatable), except with less restraint (exception last post, 'cause honestly that was only done for the funny and I guess only two or three people laughed).

Either way, I'mma suggest something here - Have Paul Bromen's e-mail readily available as a sticky, so that actual, genuine concerns (like this one!) can get to the proper instances without, y'know, having the need to retype that in every single post. I understand this will lead to likely a mass spamming of Paul's inbox (which I wish to avoid) or a mass spamming of FFG's customer service part, but honestly, unless we show people where and how to address grievances, topics like these will still happen. What I'm advocating would likely render the general boards about as useful as the Deckbuilding board when you're not a forum superstar, but when were they actually useful anyway?

This post got into pointless bickering really fast... I don't like the way the event is happening but I'm not gonna jump on a rant to shout ffg into changing their decision. My playgroup was awol for the last few months and i just recently got them hooked back in and began registering tournaments. Sadly almost all of them are contemplating permanently quitting UFS since they just got back into only to get boned like this. You can say look back and know that it was going to be like this but that doesn't really soothe the players who were hoping the location would be a bit easier to get to. Also, since some were asking for a rational argument. FFG did give the patches to scouts to give out, why couldn't they do the same with the promos, 26 per scout for players, and maybe a set for the scout since they have patches to. They could even do this a few months after the event so as to give a reward to those who actually took the time to come to FFGs HQ and fight it out for the promos. I'm also going to send this in an email to FFG and hope for positive results, but as said before, posting here doesn't serve much purpose as since we have free speech to say whatever here, FFG doesn't really care to see most of it and therefore doesn't patrol the forums often. Thank you and good day.

Take that, and send it to Paul Bromen (minus the forums part). As I said, it's too late now, but it may make them reconsider their approach as to this event if they want to repeat this next year.

what I thought the most ironic thing about this tournament? For people who don't care about competition in the least and just wanted the promo and patch for collection purposes, they just went online and bought the patches for less then the tournament entry fee was...

Im just worried that the promo is going 2 be one of those OMG why did they print this card and everyone is going 2 need 4.....or 8 depending on if they have 2 working decks that they so happen to want to put them in

Plus i dont know anyone within a 100 miles of where i live thats going....i guess i can hope that ill get them in an online trade or something

4) There is a player who has already posted in another thread <HERE> that he has 0 patches, and needs to get his hands on some to attend the event. I'm sure that if some reasonable person said "I'll send you my thirteen patches, you keep 4 of the promos, and send me back the remaining 9 and my patches." That would cost you less then travelling to a regionals event. Aparantly he has a girlfriend, she may be interested in muleing and taking another 13 patches along.

I have 2 friends that play as well that would love to attend this event as well. Any patches that we could get would be cool so we can attend(hell we are 45 minutes from the freaking site and can't go....bullcrap....going to email steve tho and ask him some questions). I would be willing to send all of the promos from the event to anyone giving me and my friends if we can at least play. and those people that went to MWCC should remember me and my crew(Prince and John).

Due to the scene being MIA around here we haven't been able to do any of these patch events.

Would anybody be willing to put me up in their hotel room if I manage to make it out to this?

I am close to the event and would be willing to shelter people for the event.

What's your email because my playgroup can hook you guys up with almost 3 sets of patches so all you guys can play. I might be going to the event but either way I will have patches for all you guys to play if you want. Or you can just email me at [email protected]

If they are quitting because they got fancy patch things FOR FREE at a tournament that was local and probably didn't cost much and/or was FREE for them to play in, and then they find out that the invatation thingy to get cards because they have those patches wasn't close to them, WHICH WAS NEVER PROMISED / LIKELY in the first place... then yeah. They can .. do something nasty to themselves.

Its poopy, yes. OMG I QUIT THE GAMEZOR over? ... not directly. And these same people will be even more disappointed for OTHER TCGs events' inconveniences... except maybe pokemon which has regionals and nationals offering cash scholarship money in pretty much every state. But if they're playing for money (towards a college degree which still = money) then UFS is stil the wrong game anyhow.

I'm still waiting on a schedual of events for the 18th and 19th, so I can find out if I can make it there on time. THAT is something to be a little upset at. At the moment, i am planning on NOT being there as I am assuming I will need to be there prior to noon on saturday and I would have to leave prior to 6pm on sunday, which isn't looking likely to fit with their yet announced schedual of events.

PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY.

If you can't go, stop losing your mind over it. People who are already going are offering to redeem your patches FOR YOU, putting your expense at a whole FIVE dollars max (postage there and back). Other people are close or WOULD go but don't have patches. Work something out with them. Geez!

But why are you losing your minds because you can't go to cash in your patches YOURSELVES?

Yeah, it'd be nice if there were a way to get the promos outsiede of the event, but isn't the real prize going to FFG HQ?

And it's not like a certain website won't have any of the promos to sell...

*sigh*

And everyone knows it'll be up on CoolStuff two weeks before the tourney anyways. As such, I wouldn't be too worried,

Actually cool stuff hasn't had early promos for a while I still can't find the any new league kits from them .

Some people feel it's cool going to check out a gaming company's headquarters and getting to see and understand a little bit more about the business.

To this day I still enjoy the opportunity I had to go and visit STG headquarters way back when.

Remember Vik's tale of going to STG headquarters last...uh...the time he did?

So jealous.

Plus, it's as someone else said - like they're REALLY only going to give out JUST the promos for the patches. C'mon, y'all. C'mon.

God no there will be much more then that I can promise that just from talking with steve on our show I know it is going to be a UFS weekend to remember . He even said " This event will be the most memorable event of the year other then worlds"

But I know what you mean about when Vik went to STG I am still pissed I couldn't afford to go at the time to hang out with all the old staff members. He said it was as much fun as going to major for everyone out there.

Yeah and we know how awesome worlds was last year... sorry SOMEone had to say it. :P

The PRIZES WILL BE AWESOME argument aside if Chubbs isn't at FFG HQ with his shirt off then it ain't gonna be as awesome as worlds. no... where... near as cool.

I did say besides worlds didn't I nothing can compare to Gencon.

I wish it would be at Nationals or Worlds so that it wouldn't be so expensive.

Count me out.. the plane ticket would cost $400 roundtrip to go there. I gotta find a way to redeem my patches somehow.

So we could see the front desk and then get denied by security any other area of the place?

Keep in mind, I haven't met most of these people nor spent a lot of time at major events. So yeah I'm not convinced. Another keep in mind, I still don't see the hooplah about Gen Con either.

So, yeah, I'm in that 1% of gamers that actually fit the socially inept type, who knew?
