Spiked Shot?

By bcwMD, in Battlelore

In his newest post, Mr Borg mentioned the Cattle Rider's Bullrush ability (which has been mentioned elsewhere), but also mentioned a Spiked Shot ability for the Goblin Slingers. Has this been mentioned elsewhere, and if so, what is it?

This won't be a very helpful post, but many have commented on the lack of punch that the slingers have. Sounds like they will be appeased :)

I hadn't heard of this before Richard's post either.

But then everyone knows the Goblin Slingers weren't that great, so perhaps this was a way to give them something. So I guess we can have some speculation as to what (maybe if a unit moves into their range of fire, they do a 1 die of damage?)

I would guess that they hit on bonus strike - that would make them very nasty indeed.

No ideas on the "spiked shot", but I read a good idea to help the slingers: give them an extra hex of movement after combat. Presumably this would be used to retreat to stay out of range. This would give them even better ability to harry the enemy.

Spiked shot aside, I think allowing the Slingers to use their movement before and/or after their attack would be a not too powerful way of boosting their impact on the board. That said, as is they are a fun tactical addition to the game.

and being a spiked shot, one would think it to be a 1 die type of shot. Of course I could be totally wrong - have been wrong in the past so it wouldn't be the first! And I don't have their summary card in front of me but it would be nice to have a unit that activates if another unit moves into their range. Sure it is only 1 die, but if multiple targets move into range, that is a lot of 1 die rolls!

And if a bonus strike is rolled, it hits PLUS reroll the die and if a flag is then rolled, then the unit retreats. (i.e. on the first die roll, flags are ignored - and thus incoporate the fact of morale into when a hit is scored)

Now to me "Spiked shot" sounds more like a crowd control ability....think Spiders Web...Any unit that takes a hit from a slinger is spiked and cannot move unless 1 lore is spent.

I don't think crowd control when I hear the name though, I think it's more little--throwing shot with spikes on/in it rather than the typical round stone/metal ball. So I would think maybe a hit on bonus strike, except Mr Borg made it sound more like a unique ability. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
