Is the comrade of a Ratling is a Ratling or a Human?
Ratling Comrades
I think it could swing both ways.
The thing I was wondering, how to change the Ratling Specialty into the Human Sniper specialty…
It isn't specified, but I think it's pretty much left open to the player to decide.

Mmmm, Ratlings that swing both ways…
What? It's a big galaxy!

I'd say change stats to only +5 Perception (or Ballistic Skill), give them 8 wounds as a base, and that should do the trick for a quick and dirty fix.
Use Weapon Specialist?
Yeah, Weapon Specialist is pretty much how to do it I'd say; with Lasgun Barrage at first, just need a longlas and he's good to go. Speaking of longlas, that Feeling (4) really makes it different from the sniper rifle (which got ammunition choices, longer base range, Higher base Pen, ammo dependent and intergraded silencer).
And something I might raise here- Does the Ratling begins with:
A longlas with telescopic sights OR a sniper rifle with a telescopic sight
OR
A longlas OR a sniper rifle with telescopic sights?
I'd say he gets the telescopic sight with either, as it makes little sense to give only one of them the sight because they both have the same availability and quality.

I had wondered that too..
I have to agree, I would like to see a genuine Human Sniper Specialty that gets the same sort of advances. I don't like Ratlings, but they're hands down the best snipers right now. And those comrade advances shouldn't be ratling only.

In all the fluff, Ratlings as a general rule, outclass their human counterparts in sniping. Now of course, there are Vindicare assassins etc, but I did say, as a general rule …
It makes sense to make the comrade advances Ratling exclusive, Ratlings are only ever portrayed in the Imperial Guard as Snipers and as such, should be better at it and have better techniques etc.

Then give them more Ratling Specific advances instead of basic Sniping stuff like Spotters… Seriously, sniper teams almost always include a spotter.
A Ratling's comrade is another Ratling, as explained in the text.
In the ?eld,
Ratlings operate
independently,
with a second
Ratling who acts as a spotter and back-
up marksman, or in small squads.
Ratlings are specialists; not to mention they are the most social character there is, so that/those Munitorium influence talents get taken cheaply to help the squad get logistics going. They are weak as they come (Weaker than a operator) get even a -10 to Toughness right off the bat, but they're agile, shoot straight and cook well.
And a Human sniper is called a Weapon specialist with a longlas/sniper rifle.
