Will there be an ascended career guide or supplemental for Guardsmen characters?

By Guardsman_Griff, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hello, Dark Heretics. First-time poster.

I love the Dark Heresy setting and have most of the RPG handbooks, but I especially love the WH40K universe most of all. So much story-telling potential and rich history.

I am particulary fond of being Mr. Guns-a-lot adrenaline junkie. I haven't participated in a DH RPG yet but I'd find that I'd play a Guardsman first if involved in a RPG; or Justicar, Cleric, or Scum. I especially like the Ascended handbook careers and have seen other career types for Cleric, Justicar/Scum.

What I'm wondering is, will there be an ascended career track for those who want to stay within the Guardsman field? I'm talking about becoming a ranking Colonel, then Brigadier General, etc., wielding more and more power, and perhaps leading one of the established regimental forces (or perhaps fielding a custom-created force)? Or perhaps taking a role as an official Commissar, or other "army" template characters that could be thought of?

Thanks!

The planned Guard supplement for Dark Heresy morphed into Fantasy Flight's new 40k RPG, Only War. It's possible that may have some higher-level options, although the characters previewed for RPG Day were very much starting Dark Heresy level, so we'll have to wait and see how high the system goes.

The Guardsman branch of acsention is the Storm Trooper.

In Dark Heresy you take the role of an acolyte of the Inquisition and the game is not about the power gain of your charakter but the service to the mankind. A General of the Guard is nobody a Inquisitor has in its cadre. If an Inquisitor would need an army of the guard or a general he would command him to do what he wants but after that the general is not of interesst.

There is a way to get a rank in the houshold army of an Inquisitor, his personal Storm Trooper, the inquisitorial Guard, but as a high ranking officer it is your job to manage your soldier, not to fight in covert operations with infiltration teams.

I think you should switch to Rouge Trader where the personal goal of the charakter is the most important to achieve and where you can play a high ranking Soldier in die Service of a rouge trader with an own army to command. But in dark heresy you play a group of acolythes that infiltrates and investigates. Combat is just a sideeffect of the bloody work of the inquisition. Acolytes are not the kill-team of an inquisitor, they can but its not their primary job. An Inquisitor has other posibilities to kill someone, much more effektive posibilities..
