Encounter clarification

By Dr. Jay, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hey folks,

Playing a game of Arkham tonight and we ran into an interesting question. One of our players got effectively trapped in a location by a fairly tough monster in the attached street location. On his Arkham encounter turn, he drew a card in which someone offered him a ride to the Black Cave where he then could draw two encounter cards and take the one he wanted. He thought this was a pretty good way to get past the monster except that the Black Cave had a gate open on it.

What happens in this case? Does he go to the Black Cave and into the gate? If so, does he draw 2 other world cards right then (remember its during the Arkham Encounter phase), or does he wait til the other world phase and play like normal. Or, is the original Arkham Encounter card moot due to the gate?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

If he goes to the Black Cave, he won't have any encounter, except going through the gate.

Then, during the Other World Encounter, he will resolve as usual the situation and will draw only one OW Encounter card.
