Dumb question: the description of the event says that registration begins promptly at 5 PM. Is that for folks who didn't buy a ticket for the event beforehand or is this some sort of pre-tournament sign in? I'm interested in joining but I have an event that runs until 6.
Post here if you're signed up for the Gencon launch tournament
As above FFG said they were going to provide the tournament rules not quite sure on the rules themselves. Of course the rules will be in the box set then it just depends on how fast you can learn a game in the madness that is Gen Con.
Timing wise i would like it to go another round or two with that many people attending the tournament.. though saturday nights are usually "celebration/last hurrah" nights I would be down for it. Registration may be a simple "i'm here and attending" possibly to fill out a deck list sheet? has anyone gone to the CoC or Agot tournaments at gen con that can chime in?
I played in their Call of Cthulhu tournament last year. For that event (and Game of Thrones) they have you turn in a deck sheet, but this is typically filled out in advance and you just bring it to the tournament. Since you won't have the cards until Thursday morning at the earliest, they may be expecting people to be filling them out at the tournament, or they may make the blank form downloadable so you're supposed to bring some copies to the con and can fill them out in advance if you want to.
Only 3 tickets left, if you still need one.

Two :-) Jumping in with both feet on this one. I'm more of a board game player than a card game player, so this should be interesting. At least I may give at least one player an easy advance
Hoping they'll have enough games to go around on this one, especially since they doubled the tournament size. While I plan to buy mine first thing Thursday, like everyone else in the tourney (probably), I hope they don't run out before all the tournament players have them.
does anyone know if you can pre order and pick up at gen con? that would solve a few things. Good thing I am getting my con tickets sent via snail mail do not have to wait on that line (i heard horror stories of last year's will call debacle).
as far as game experience don't recall much from playing back in the day but i imagine that ffg will change about some rules so even "veteran" players may have some trouble grasping the game play… at least initially.
No, there is no way to preorder and pick up that I've heard of. Some of the small companies may offer such a thing but I haven't heard of FFG doing it. Shouldn't need to unless they massively screw up anyway - they should be bringing a lot of copies. Why are we assuming that they won't?
Will Call is a bad idea, get your tickets mailed to you in advance. Best few bucks you'll ever spend. Unless you live in town you're probably paying a fair bit to attend the con, I can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily give up convention time to stand in a line to save a few dollars.

Because Gencon won't mail tickets to anyone outside the US so I have to stand in line.
Didn't know that, that definitely sucks.
Can you have them sent to someone you know in the US and they can re-mail them to your location?
Edit: Just looked and all 64 tickets are sold out now! This is going to be an awesome tournament.
Wow this is going to be a nice event. I hope there is enough time to make it for this after the COC tournament!
There are thousands of people who attend Gencon. Companies regularly sell out of product, especially products released at Gencon. I would be surprised if they didn't have a few hundred for sale at Gencon, but I'd be surprised if they didn't sell out by Saturday… which almost guarantees that someone is going to want a set and not be able to get it.

I'm in the same boat, attending both. I think the best thing to do is notify the FFG staff when we get there that we're playing in both tournaments and get our Netrunner deck lists turned in ahead of time.
Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure there will be some from the AGOT tournament in the same boat as well. Going to be a long day of card playing.
Yeah, but a good one. I'd suggest packing some snacks for anyone playing these back to back - probably not going to be much time to refuel. Last year I had the foresight to buy a couple bags of caramel popcorn to take to the con that really came in handy when I didn't want to leave the gaming area.
You could also in theory share some of the cards you aren't using to help someone who was unfortunate enough to not be able to get a starter. I know that i will try and be there as soon as possible thursday morning i even canceled my 10am event since i had nothing but events back to back and had no one available.
As far as tournament tips, I usually take some fruits from the breakfast buffet most hotels provide in particular oranges i found to be the best in between snacks.
I plan on bringing some of those nature's valley granola bars. They seem to do the trick. Gonna be fun!

I think I'd be afraid of getting my cards sticky with oranges though - gotta be careful and maybe pack some hand wipes. On the other hand, they're one of the more durable fruits to chuck in your backpack.

Once pre-reg closed (After the 1'st of July, if memory serves) *all* event & badge purchases are Will Call-only.
Honestly, Will Call isn't that bad. If you're arriving Wednesday, you can pick your stuff up then. It's open until 9 PM. And even Thursday morning it's not that bad since everything people are picking up in that line is already paid for, they just show up at the booth, show ID, and get a envelope filled with their stuff.
Obviously, you weren't at Gencon Wil Call last year - at least not on Thursday morning. Will Call was a complete total 100% disaster of a cluster-fubar. No exaggeration, there were a good 7-10,000 people in line. The line went the entire length of the building, back around to Will Call, then out the door and back another half length of the building (seriously, I have pics of the insanity too). I waited in line for over TWO hours just to pick up my *pre paid* badge and tickets packet. One of my friends who picked up Wednesday night said it was also bad then too and took him at least an hour to get his. Supposedly, the GenCon staff has addressed this and it wont be as bad again, but after standing in the longest line of my life last year, I was more than happy to have my stuff *mailed* to me this year instead of dealing with something like that again.

This is ridiculous. In this day and age there is no reason for this. They have different halls and rooms available to them, they should be able to have different lines for different letters of a surname, e.g. A-G will call Wednesday and Thrusday morning are in 5012, H-N is 4533, etc.
I have a ticket for the event myself as well as a duplicate ticket for one of my friends - I bought it before they sold out and I'm going to make my friends punch each other until only one is still standing up and that'll be who I give the other tourney ticket to.
Fun times.
Signed up, got ticket, looking forward to the tournament. The last time I played any version of Netrunner has almost been a decade.
I'll be playing in the tournament along with a couple of my friends who I signed up as well.
I am really excited that Netrunner is being rereleased in the LCG format. WOOOO!
On a completely random note, take an evening away from gaming, or take your copy of Netrunner to the RAM Brewery and play a few games there, they've always got some fun themes for Gencon and their food is delicious. I've eaten there the last few years I've been at Gencon and will miss being there this year, but trying to drum up some business for 'em.
Yeah the Ram is a cool restaurant. I normally go Wednesday night as that is the Privateer Press forum meet-up, but I don't know if that has changed in recent years as I have missed the last couple GenCons.
Anyone Signed up for the release tournament have a VIG Gencon Badge?
