Scenario 1 loss :')

By Avi_dreader, in Arkham Horror League

Two hour game, I managed to get my team fairly decent equipment— only problem, I screwed up on gate calculation and let one too many open ;') oops (that wouldn't've been a problem actually if it weren't a -2 gate, and the person I had sitting on it was gloria, who botched her roll). ::Sigh:: 16 monster trophies terror at zero and nothing in the outskirts, and now I have to try it again... Fun :'D Heh, who would've thought that regular monsters could be such a pain in the ass without spells or unique items... Heh... I'd taken out 2 ghosts, a formless spawn, a hound of tindalos, a shoggoth, a fire vampire, and a vampire (all exciting fights— I actually brought the fire vampire down with two crosses ;') it was appropriately sweet).

Hey! Have fun at try number 2! Sounds like you had a good game going.... up until the end...

:)

Did you mean Vampire or Fire Vampire, 'cos IIRC Crosses won't do anything but make you feel better vs FV?

Meant fire vamp, that's what happens when I type at 3AM ;') errr, vamp, heh... there I go again (I should still be asleep).

Grrr... Arg... I'm working on my second game, I have some good equipment, but the gates are getting out of control, and the terror is about to hit one, and worst, my best investigator is cursed. ::Sigh:: I can't believe I've drawn eight spells already and not a single find gate... I think I'll go on :' still I was hoping to get a perfect score ;') I guess that's not as easily doable with a four player team.

Alright... I forfieted... (Yeah, I might've still been able to win, but not with the kindof score I wanted). But no more mister nice Avi! This time I'm calling out the brute squad!

So far my new strategy is working well... Although I'm a little worried about the gate limit bursting... Hrm...

::Sigh:: I was actually doing pretty well that game, but as I was playing I was thinking about potential strategy and it occurred to me that I could play a more effective game with different characters... So, restarting again ;'D

:' This time I killed 20 monsters, but finally got taken down by a seventh gate again :' grrr... ::Shrug:: I actually had some bad luck rolls (losing half the items on my strongest character) and... Grrrr...

::Sigh:: I hate not being able to shop ::grin::

It sounds like you are using the oposite strategy we did. I was wondering how it would work out delaying closing some of the gates to control the doom track that way. That gate limit is a pain... If it works, you should get a great score. We never had a single monster surge in the 4 player game (or maybe just one, since we tried a two player game after that and I am getting the two confused.)

I do love how short the scenario is, it makes it fun to try different scenarios. It sounds like if you can get the timing right, you are going to have a monster score.

My strategy is a pain in the ass... I nearly pulled it off last game, unfortunately The Great Experiment broke the terror track (even though I was keeping the gate limit under control. And why couldn't I keep The Great Experiment under control? Well, there was a Gug sitting on the Miskatonic U. streets, and a ghost, and a (and this part's the best) Dark Young (they were both dropped there by a mythos card) ::Sigh:: anyways, I couldn't get them out of the **** way, I managed to evade past them with Joe, but he only had one clue token left and two sanity (he failed the horror check against one monster that I needed to kill to delay the rumor for failing for just one more turn— after which I would've been able to send in a couple other characters to clear the spot out). ::Sigh:: What a pain. I'm just curious, about how many monster trophies did your four player team finish the game with?

Hmm.. We just beat the 2-player version of this scenario today, and we had a BUNCH of gate surges. In fact, so many that it seemed like it was DRAWING OUT the game. I was actually surprised that we were still alive, for much of it. This caused our Terror Track to reach the full 10, and on top of that, a Surge was what brought Shubby-Chan out. It was our first (and only) run-through of the scenario. I'll go into details after my cohort has submitted our report. It was fun, took longer than expected (because I expected defeat in under an hour)... and we had a bit of an anti-climactic win, thanks to Amanda Sharpe. XD

Avi, are you still at this scenario? If you are, good luck! Perhaps don't try for score - just try for survival!?

Yeah, I finally played a game through till the end (four players) I'm not sure if I want to submit it though, I only got a 28. Still, I'm not sure how competitive I should get over these scenarios as luck seems to be a large component with these new scenarios (they're not easily broken like the last ones). Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about that :') I'm enjoying the scenarios very much, I'm just not sure if I should compete or just play.

Well until today I've never played for points before, and we wound up with 9... so.... Yeah. I'm really happy with the win, to be honest. ^_^ ;

Until I was looking at the scores from last year's league's first session, I was really happy and impressed with that score, too... I guess it was the Terror track that really killed us... it did give us a -10 right off the bat. O.o And since we live in different cities and can't get together to play often, we'll be submitting the 9. Huzzah!

This scenario is fun to replay, so trying to have "the perfect game" doesn't seem so bad. It is less about grinding it out, and more about making a few gambles here and there to try and kill all of the monsters. The way we played it, we were actually removing a fair number of monsters due to closing gates. It made getting around the board easier, but it did limit some of the opportunities to kill things.

Then again, with the tough horror checks and added monster toughness, trying to kill more things may have resulted in too much time in the asylum and hospital. I say, if the scenario is still fun, try it again... but I think 28 is going to do well too. (Though we will probably try once more to beat it...)

What I mean to say that we were still playing for fun, but this was our first time scoring it.
