Whe the above is stated on a character does this mean it is immune to event cards or is there more to it ?

If it's written on the card of an opponent and it can do something to cards that you have in play, it's considered an "opponents card effect".
If you are referencing Cat O' Canals, then she cannot be touched by opponents card effects, period. The only way she can die is by the hands of the opponent is for Military claim or some kind of a challenge claim replacement. This is my feeble attempt to give you as simple an example as possible.

Ok thanks, would this include plot cards?
You kind of answered your own question there: plots are cards, so the text on them counts as a "card effect."
Agendas are cards, so the text on them counts as a "card effect."
Is Cat what you are asking about here? Your post says "immune to opponent's effect," but there is no card that says that. It is always immunity to "card effects" or "triggered effects," etc.
As for the difference between "triggered effect" and "triggered ability," all "triggered abilities" are "triggered effects." So if something is immune to "triggered effects," that covers "triggered abilities." Triggered abilities are the effects printed on cards that must be in-play before a player can choose to use them (eg, characters, locations, attachments). Triggered effects are those, and effects printed on cards that can be used by player choice while they are not in play (eg, events, as well as character, locations, and attachments).
Yes. Plot cards are considered card effects.
Agendas are considered card effects.
What your opponents wrote down in a Birthday or Get Well card they gave to you is considered a card effect if it made you feel good. Cat O' Canals is immune even to that.
