Summer and Winter

By Daenarys, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I just want to be clear when activating Summer/ Winter

Am i correct in stating that summer/ winter is onluy activated by a card ?

If i activate Summer then does it stay summer until the end of the game unless cancelled ?

If i activate summer and then somebody activates winter does this then take precedent ?

Can you have summer and winter running simultaneously and if so how does the dynamic work ?

thanks

The seasons are card effects. Nothing more.

If you play a card that makes it Summer (or Winter), it stays that season until the card effect no longer applies (because it leaves play, for example).

The most common method of making it Summer (or Winter) - the Black and White Ravens - are mutually exclusive only because when one comes into play, it carries a card effect that discards all others from play.

The less common methos of making it Summer (or Winter) - the Crowns, Cotter Pyke, etc. - are not mutually exclusive in that they do not carry effects that discard or inactivate other cards that make it Summer or Winter (although many of them have conditions whereby they themselves are "shut off" by the Raven attachments). If you have two of these out, one with an effect that makes it Summer and one with an effect that makes it Winter, it will be both seasons at the same time.

So you just do what the cards tell you, nothing more, nothing less.
