Jaime kneels and discards Wendamyr - cancel?

By Honza2, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

There is Jaime with two power tokens on him (opponent's char) and Wendamyr (my char) on the table. Both standing.

Jaime: "Challenges: Kneel Ser Jaime Lannister to choose and kneel 1 non-Army character controlled by an opponent. Then, if Ser Jaime Lannister has more power on him than that character has STR, discard that character from play. (Limit once per phase.) "

Wendamyr: "Response: Kneel Maester Wendamyr to save a Greyjoy character from being killed or discarded…"

Jaime kneels and discards Wendamyr. I have To be a Kraken in my hand and i can legally play it.

Question: Is there any way to save Wendamyr from being discarded?

Not unless you have another character kneeling to play TbaK to cancel Jamie's ability. If not, then Jamie's ability first kneels Wendamyr. This must fully resolve before the "then" effect can take place, which means when it comes to the discarding effect, Wendamyr is already knelt. In response to the "then" effect, you can only play save responses as per 3.38 in the FAQ, which means you can't use TbaK on Wendamyr to cancel the effect.

Thanks. I guess this means i can't use Wendamyr either to save himself, because he is knelt already when it comes to the discarding.

Just so.
