My wannabe legal core deck

By MyNeighbourTrololo, in Strategy and deck-building

I'm new to the game and yet to purchase any expansion. So todaty I tried to build my own custom deck and even tested it twice on the first quest with difficulty 1. First time I won perfectly, second time I lost with greart battle(two Ungoliants and precisely timed hummerhorn).

So my deck consits of:

Aragorn

Eowyn

Dunhere

Guard of the Citadel x3

Snowbourn Scout x3

Gandalf x3

Wandering Took x2

Northern Tracker x2

Lorein Guide x3

Celebrian's Stone x1

Steward of Gondor x2

Unexpected Courage x1

The Favor of the Lady x2

Power in the Earth x2

Common Cause x2

Sneak Attack x2

Ever Vigilant x2

Valiant Sacrifice x2

A Light in the Dark x2

A Test of Will x2

Dwarven Tomb x1

Will of the West x2

The Galadhrim's Greeting x2

Hasty Stroke x2

Stand and Fight x3

Strength of Will x2

Yup, It doesn't has enough cards to be legal, but it's entire core spirit deck with some fitting leadership cards shuffled in. Others would be just a waste of card slot in my opinion. Aragorn would rarely have more than two resource tokens due to constantly reading himself after questing to be able to defend/attack.

Looks good! It almost makes me want to go back to using one core set to build a deck.

You're really close to hitting 50. You just need 2 more cards. Why not just throw in "For Gondor!"? Sure it may not be the best card you could use, but it could be useful against Spawn of Ungoliant or something. And then you can say you're using a legal core deck. And even if you can't play it, at least you can use it to fuel Éowyn's ability.

That's makes sense, thanks. The main reason I didn't included it initially was it low usefulness-high cost ratio, and with this high tension Aragorn almost always spends resource to ready after questing. Was just afraid those two may push back some vitals I really need.

Switch Aragorn for Théodred then. You'll have more money for both Leadership and Spirit. The questing will soon be better. The defence will be bad but your threat will be a lot lower and Dúnhere will be more useful. Plus once you get into adventure packs, this deck will get a huge boost with Rohan allies, Dúnedain Mark, etc.

It may still be hard to fill 50 but cards like For Gondor! or Faramir shall greatly enhance this deck… now counting it, just throw away Common Cause and with those I mentioned you'll be right at 50. Celebrian's Stone won't get the bonus but you can still keep it in for a quest boost.

I'm afraid without Aragon everything will fall apart, as he was this power keeping me up all runs with this deck. He's something like two heroes in one. And there is slight probability that he'll get Spirit resource icon too.

I do understand that with Theodred instead of Aragorn I'll probably engage many enemies later(or if I'm lucky - never), but as soon as I do - I'm done, because those wandering tooks won't last for long and nor Theodred neither Dunhere are good blockers(or probably already exhausted anyways).

Ok, if you feel safer with Aragorn, you might wanna go for Théodred instead of Dúnhere. You can make Éowyn Steward to get the Spirit resources going and you can get lucky with the Stone. Either way, Théodred shall make you a lot of money; and he can make sure Aragorn is ready for fight. With Aragorn you won't get much out of Dúnhere, so you might wanna save him for later when your card pool has grown.

This is good variant too, the only thing is costy spirit cards all around the deck.

Theodred can keep Eowyn with resources if he quests every turn, but then we're down one attacker/defender later on.

There is always a catch. Lose somethin got get something.
