Uncovering a minor cult

By Maverick91, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

My group is chasing a rogue Tech Priest who stole Xeno Tech from his inquisitor master and left his master for dead. My group, acolytes to a different inquisitor are tasked with tracking down this tech priest. The group has worked out that the Priest has had dealing with a business man, the thing is I want the business man to be the leader of a secret Slaaneshi cult. |The problem I'm having is how do I draw subtle attention to the fact he may be a cultist? I though about having vile painting on the wall showing forms of sexual torture and stuff painted in equally vile colours. My group are only just into rank 3 and as far as I know none have the ability to spot a cultist straight out. Another way I thought of drawing attention to the fact he's a cultlist is for him to offer the group some form of hallucinogen that will result in them seeing Daemonettes and basically a bad trip that will make them suspicious.

The fact he's a cultist has no real baring on the campaign itself. I want to give them a small side quest to hold them up for a session or two whilst I work out where to go from here as they managed to wonder so far from the path I was trying to guide them down.

Im just not sure how to get my group to uncover this minor cult so that they can shut it down.

The businessman could invite the Acolytes to have dinner with him, where he flaunts his love of the finest wines and most expensive (possibly illegally acquired) delicacies. After dinner he could show off his private library, which includes many banned texts. And of course he would be attended by a court of decadent followers who can barely control their love of pleasure and pain.

In my own campaign, I had a disolute noble who was secretly a Slaanesh worshipper, who had two daemonettes as consorts; their appearance was hidden by amulets that created a 'glamour' that they were normal women…

I would think about why this rogues tech priest has had dealing with him. Has he been supplied with some banned tech for example? They should be suspicious of him already if they know he has had dealings with the bad they are chasing so play to that. On the other hand it might be good for him to be differently naughty!

I like the dinner idea. He doesn't have to have anything actually blasphemous on the walls, for me that is too obvious, but just suggestive items, maybe some sculptures that are designed to stimulate imagination or maybe the senses. They need a sense that something wierd is going on then they can either explore it by pretending to be after such sensations or go in harder, depending on their philosophy. Actually obvious blasphemy should only be kept in a hidden place or this guy would not surive long as a cultist!

Oh- the Heretek could be designing custom torture devices for the businessman! That would cover both tech heresy and Slaaneshi bases.

Yep, or devices to stimulate the pleasure centres of the brain. Or another form of mind control…

The possibilities are endless :-D
