We have been disputing how to handle reactions to move and then close combat. I believe that after a unit moves in to close Comsat range that the unit about to be attacked can react by moving away before the close combat. It then will receive a reaction marker allowing no further reaction. This means that a priority on coordinated attacks would be necessary. You would have to have another unit within range to attack the unit that reacted and, of course, would not be able to attack. Does anyone else view this rule this way?

It appears you have it right. The best way for Axis units to pull off the Combo, "Move Action/CC Attack Action (or a Markus led March Move Action/Charge Special Ability Attack Action)" is to suppress the target first unless it has a reaction marker. Otherwise, the target may react to your move action and either shoot you dead at their feet, or move away, out of CC range before you may attack. Allies have a much easier go of it using their rocket troops, as an opponent may not react to their move action.
Now, regardless of what you are moving into CC with, if your opponent waits to react to the attack, they may only react with a CC Attack of their own per these rules…
Page 57 Close Combat Rules, last two bullet points:
• The target unit cannot react with a Move reaction.
• Any Attack reaction to a Close Combat Attack action may only include Close Combat weapons.
Gory Details,
B-man was my opponent in the session we ran last night that led to this discussion. We were running a mildly modified Key Positions Game.My Axis KT squad was in base contact of my "keeper" terrain (an AT-43 CONEX). B-man had his Hammers in base contact on the other side of the CONEX and thus we've no LOS to each other. My Axis Hans just moved in closer to the CONEX. Reaction state on the KT, but the Hans could react.
B-man Moves (Action 1) (Jump, so no reaction by my KT or Hans) to CC range with my KT. B-man then declares Attack (Action 2) against my KT. No reaction by my KT (reaction state) but my Hans is not in CC range.
We debated resolution sequence and things were "non-tournament" so the outcome was friendly no matter which, but here's the quick synopsis of sequence(s):
- Hans DOES NOT get to Attack React as it would be firing into the swirl of the infantry CC. Hammers destroy the KT with CC and are then subject to the React Attack of the Hans.
- Hans DOES React Attack and there is a simultaneous resolution of the Hammers CC against my KT (can't react so Die in Place most likely) and my Hans against the Hammers… come what may out of that.
Good nights rest and another scan of the rules yields:
Pg 34… "…unit can react:" [ second bullet point ] "-An enemy unit declares an Attack action that includes the unit [ attacked unit ] as a target."
The Circumstance is nullified! The Hammers "Jump" takes the Hans out of any reaction for movement and the Hans was not the attacked unit, thus cannot react.
Re-run the setup with a NON-jump unit, say "Red Devils", and the Hans move react attacks as the RD's move round the CONEX to slaughter the KT. Hans resolves against the RD's (Hans then goes "Reacted"). RD's could then choose to CC attack the KT (destroying such and removing contention of the "keeper" terrain and gaining the Superiority Point). Or, the RD's could choose to attack the Hans - with whatever is left from the Hans Attack!
BTW we were introducing another player to DW and hope to generate more interest and traction going forward - B-mans Dice were on FIRE! 2x Rocket punch all hits (inverted success) and lousy armor rolls on my part led to lots of murder-death-kill.

Thanks. That's what I thought. By the way, a unit can only respond to the move within 3 inches by moving itself. It can not shoot at
CC range.
Of course they can react to a unit within 3" by shooting at them as long as they are reacting to the move and not to the cc attack. There is no "locked in combat" state.

In addition to the Hans having been able react to a move by a non-Jump unit, multiple units can React if desired.

Nothing prevents shooting at a unit within 3", or reacting to a unit moving within 3" of you by shooting at it. Close combats are a special type of Attack action with certain pre-conditions that imposes restrictions on Reactions, it is not a state that presents restriction in and of itself.
