Kampaffen Army

By Peacekeeper_b, in Dust Warfare

These days I am more Infantry than walker, so I am wondering the best way to support a Axis Ape Assault.

Platoon One: Markus, 4 Squads of Apes (24+24+24+24+24) 120 AP

Platoon Two: Sigrid, Laser Grenadiers, 2 Squads of Apes (20+21+24+24) 89 AP

That is 209 points. What should be added for the next 81 points to make the force 300 AP? Walkers? Snipers?

Or

Heavy Kommandotrupp, Axis Gorillas, Heavy Flak Grenadiers, Heavy Recon Grenadiers, Heavy Laser Grenadiers (35+24+26+30+35) 150 AP with 30 left over (perhaps Lara)?

I like the ape assault, if I can remember they have fast and climb I will do better next time.

You had 91 points left over from 209 gui%C3%B1o.gif

For a no walker list, I actually kind of like it. You would have to get in tight to enemy walkers to kill them which could give you some problems though, even though you have all those fast moving apes, but I would rather keep the apes moving towards enemy infantry. What I might suggest instead is

Markus + 4 apes for 120

Hvy Kommandotrupp + Apes + Battle grenadiers (upgraded) + battle grenadiers (upgraded) + Ludwig + Ludwig for 179

for a total of 299.

This gives you the ape assault that you want, plus some mid-range suppression, mid-short range anti-tank shooting from the panzerfausts and panzershreks, and plenty of longe range anti-tank from the two Ludwigs.

It is truly amazing the variety of lists that you can make out of these armies. Every time someone makes a post on this forum it makes me think up a new list. Considering all of the different unit options to choose from with all of them having models and all options available straight out of the box (I am still amazed at the fact that the battle grenadiers and Gunners boxes come with a 6th model to accomodate the upgrade option) it is amazing all the different list that one can come up with… and any one of them can win… amazing. I freakin love this game. I just wish more people at my local would give it a try instead of just blindly playing warmachine oblivious to any other game in existence.

At first, I was going to say, if you only knew, but then realized it sounds like you do. Sigh, I'll see what tomorrow brings. I did have a guy watch for a bit today, while myself and 1 of my converts played. He says he has a ton of the models, but hasn't played tactics and will come in tomorrow. Here's hoping.

As far as the OP, I'd go with Strom's suggestion, or put Angela & a sniper team in there. You need some long-ranged to suppress your opponent. I found out in a game today that the Hell Boys and a rocket punch squad led by Rhino are tough nuts to crack with Markus & Gorillas in not suppressed. Made a stupid move on turn 6 (Front Lines campaign scenario) and got them killed by a reaction. Had I ran them into the corner, I'd have got the scenario win. Live & learn, I saw a piece of cover and ran right into the range of his upgraded attack squad. Dumb. But I really lost the game in list building phase. No long ranged at all, and he torched my medium stuff turn two.

Thanks for the input …. I have been wondering what to match up with my Markus and the Hairy Apes platoon.
