Just to reiterate - THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS
I'm currently running Damned Cities as the first book of the Haarlock Heresy trilogy. The group is very near the end. They discovered that Skarmen was the bad guy but don't know that he is being controlled by the Mirror Demon. When they discovered it half the group were sneaking into his office and found the mirrors and the other half were confronting him at the Amorite mansion. He escaped there and got back to the Folly before the first group could get away and corpse-minioned the arbites that were there. The second group rescued them from the top of the tower with the help of the Enforcers. Skarmen called them out as heretics pretending that Constantine is the one who has been murdering people and trying to get the shards.
At this point then they left the mirror shards in the mirror apart from the one shard they have. They then drew Skarmen out of the Foly by threatening to take the shard away on a shuttle. Skarmen attacked them at the spaceport. Two acolytes got away heavily wounded on a shuttle and plan to drop the shard in a volcano, the other two got away in a Rhino leaving Skarmen in the hanger with two Risen.
I would quite like to introduce the 'Inquisition has factions' theme by having Spectre Cell-17 take out Skarmen now while he is exposed and then spirit away the Mirror Demon so it can tell the Tyrantine Cabal about Kronus and Haarlock but I'm a bit worried that this will seem a little deus-ex machina. I therefore definitely want the PCs to have a chance to track the Spectre Cell and realise that there were other Inquisition agents around. However I don't think I want a confrontation as the Spectre Cell would kill my PCs in a hearbeat right now. I'm struggling to think of a good clue beyond something really obvious that would make the Spectre Cell seem like numpties…
Anyone got any ideas?
Should I just not do this at all?
