hi im new to this game system, can u increase squad sizes? and the armour rolls…do u actually take the dice equal to your armour value for the whole squad as opposed the each minature of the squad?
n00b question
Most squad sizes are fixed. There are some instances where you can purchase an extra guy (like for the combat and assault command squads who can purchase an extra radio operator) and you can attach a hero to a squad, but these are the exceptions, not the rule.
Armor saves are determined by the type of squad/vehicle you are shooting at. So my Infantry 3 "Grim Reapers" only ever get 3 armor save dice to roll against a pool of incoming wounds (that is 3 dice for the entire squad, not 3 dice per model). So at most I can only save 3 wounds max, if someone manages to do 6 wounds to my squad of Reapers (assuming they don't get cover) it would be impossible for me to make enough armor saves to keep anyone in the squad alive.
Hope that clarifies things.
Plus Cover and Hit the Dirt may effectively add to armor saves by adding dice to the save roll.

This could be misleading, as they don't add dice to the armor save roll, they add successes as though you had rolled 1-2 more dice which came up a hit symbol. Here is exactly how it works…
Hit the dirt gives a soldier unit a suppression marker. Any unit with one or more suppression markers gets a 1-step increase in its cover - No cover = soft cover, soft cover = hard cover. Cover cannot be increased more than hard.
When a unit benefiting from Soft cover makes its Armor roll, it is treated as having scored one additional success.
When a unit benefiting from Hard cover makes its Armor roll, it is treated as having scored two additional successes.
ok but if you check the pictures of 'the mill' you will notice larger units.

Or two units interspersed to give each other cover and coordinate attacks.
