Magic in Tilea

By Fenderstat, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

What's the Tilean's views on arcane magic? Do they have some sort of system? Do they have institutions where they learn or even sister colleges tied to the ones in the empire headed by Empire staff? What do you all think?

I'm starting a Border Princes campaign and it's going to have a lot of Tileans in it.

In the 1° edition there was more type of magic, it was more "free".

It would be awesome if they will make a box to use old stuff like type of magic as in 1° edition, not the specific spells, but the careers.

I actually haven't had an 'in-game' situation involving casters from or even in Tilea. BUT, I did some thinking on the matter a ways back and according to my notes (based on no fluff what so ever):

Humans using magic is a scary thing regardless of the country. The Empire has 'trained' witches, and this terrifies other "civilised" countries like Tilea and Estalia. Of course the Empire uses this as a massive political bludgeon to get what they want from their trading "partners." Likely, one of the main reasons the Imperial nobility hasn't thrown a bigger fit (and why the cults shush up since they profit on the tithing given by the rich merchants and traders) about the colleges in the centuries since Magnus croaked.

Imperial wizards search the world, not just the grand provinces, for those "gifted" with the ability to percieve and manipulate the winds. There is probably some altruism in there someplace written in big letters in an obscure trade agreement or other official document speaking of "rooting out witchcraft." But the real reason is…competition. More wizards in a specific college means more influence for inter-collegiate matters. In short…power. So, imperial magisters comb the continent (and some sail for ports far afield) looking for promising apprentices. Tilea and Estalia are probably high on the list of stops to make on the recruitment circuit.

The Tileans and Estalians likely turn a tidy profit in the deal of selling off 'darklings.' I have no clue why I refered to them as darklings…but whatever. Magically gifted Tileans and Estalians that are not turned over to the Empire have plenty of mountain ranges and rough country to find a hermitage in (hedge wizards and witches). Given the proximity to Araby, some Tileans and Estalians likely make it there as prisoners or by choice. They would then advance in the manner that Arabian wizards do (Liber Fanatica has a Magic of Araby supplement though I've never had cause to use it).

Given the rubbish and decidedly non-canon content of my mad gibberings…hope it helps :-)

I like it. I would like to find a way to give my border princes a chance to level up things other than hedge magic for 2nd edition. I will check out this Araby supplement
