2nd round of Warfare

By Ariano, in Dust Warfare

Today we played again a low AP game, just to check out the rules, this time my opponent was a newcomer to the miniatures wargame universe and I think he liked it.

I prepared two "easy" lists, no heroes, no too many special abilities, and more or less "identical" (btw, I used the excel sheet from BGG, it works perfectly ;D )

Allies ASSAULT PLATOON 119 AP

Command Hell Boys 25

1st Section Recon Boys 16
2nd Section Recon Boys 16
3rd Section The Gunners 17

4th Section Death Dealers 20
Support Unit Black Hawk

Axis STURMGRENADIERE PLATOON 118 AP

Command Kommandotrupp 25

1st Section Recon Grenadiers 17
2nd Section Battle Grenadiers 17
3rd Section Recon Grenadiers 17

4th Section Recon Grenadiers 17
Support Unit Hans

Obviously the idea was not to make the perfect list but something easy to play which will allow for simple demo game.

The deployment was Advancing lines, with None conditions and Eliminate the Enemy (no choices here, I think that for a demo game this is the more simple set up as everyone is able to try to attacks to opponent and to defend itsefl without a master in military strategies and tactics ;D )

At the end we play less than three rounds, I think that maybe even only one and a half, but it was worth it. After deployment, we were experiencing some of the issues of having units outside of the 12" from the Unit lider of the Command Squad (except for the axis radioman in the Kommandotrupp, of course) which were quite interesting to comment about.

The Hans was behind two AT-43 containers stack on top of each other and was able to fire indirectly to some Recon Boys with the help of the radioman. Here I did the mistake to use the Panzerfaustwerfer in addition to the Granatwerfer which is against the rules, but was not so critical.

The reaction system is very nice. I move some of my Recon Grenadiers behind some walls, with of them close to the corner of a bunker, which was in reaction range of one unit of Recon Boys which almost destroy them, also two guys survived. The next round saw orders given in that part of the battle field, but the two guys were still there afterwards. We almost gave an attack order to an unit outside the 12" even if you have discussed the situation 5 min before :)

I must say I really like the game :)

I just read some post about demo games. Do you have any special, easy lists for those occasions similar to this ones or you go more heavy on walkers or even heroes ?

Pics or it didn“t happen! :P

Just kidding, I wonder how it would be to play under 150AP. Seems like fun ;)

You could even make it simpler and faster, we did a TON of games demos with at-43 using a simple formula of one Mech/Walker, one troop choice and one Special three man team type troop type, and for fun one hero(optional). Ignore the points and focuses on the units types and any specail things they do and the game mechanics its fun fast and is all most folks need to tell if this game is for them or not ,Good luck & Have fun!

Thanks for the encouragement :)

The game actually took place, btw ;)

Maybe trying to stick to the platoon structure was not a very good idea. Your advise concerning the number of troops is similar to something in another thread here in this forum and now, in retrospective, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Next time we play again I think I will skip the platoon structure, give a command section each, one walker, one heavy infantry unit and maybe attach a hero to it. So, with three units we can use a smaller table and get into "business" directly in round one :) :)
