New Axis player

By Flindo, in Dust Tactics

Hey guys!

I am a long time war gamer having played many games like warhammer and warmachine and hordes, but I am also a passonate board gamer, having recently heard of this game I quickly fell in love with the miniatures, the low price (in comparison to other mini games) and the fact that it can be played as either a boardgame or miniature tabletop game.

now back to the topic on hand, I am saving up to buy the revised starter set sometime this summer and am really liking the look of the axis faction, and would like an opinion on what to pick up afterwords (I also plan on picking up a couple sets for the allies for my opponets)

Thanks in advance, I cant wait to get my hands on this steller looking game!

A command squad for each side is the standard answer here.
I would also recommend a medium walker kit for each side, and the spec ops box for each side (which includes a sniper team, and a spotter team to let you do artillery attacks with your medium walkers.)

These are generally the standard first expansions. Beyond that, I'd say just get whatever tickles your fancy. It's pretty easy to find the stats for all the units online, so you'll know what you're getting into.

And if you're wanting to play the table-top version, you'll need a copy of the Dust Warfare rulebook. If you're strapped for cash, you can get the PDF version for about half the retail cost of the paper version.

thanks for the quick reply!

yeah thats generally what I was looking at, not because of the stats but because I like the models, one feature I love about this game is when I buy a mech kit its easy to swap the weapon setup around without magnatizing them.

Also check out my army builder, it has all the unit stats rules and cards in it so it a great resource for pretty much everything in tactics. LINK

Angela with snipers, Grenadier X with squad of zombies, the new medium walker with flamethrowers, and of course the heavy walker

I'm not that big of a fan of the zombies or Gorillas, I want to keep my army as a serious German army, they just seem too Wacky for my tastes.

I'd just play the starter set for a while and get a feel for the game before getting other units. Be careful of the game balance if buying new units - a Heinrich or Ludwig walker for example would unbalance the game in favour of the Axis.

Contrary to other posters, I probably wouldn't recommend a command squad though - probably a bit too expensive and unreliable to justify their inclusion

The normal command squad is unreliable, but the heavy command squad is worth every point and the abilities don't require a die roll
