Any news on the Zverograd Campaign Book?

I have bought a platoon's worth of Frontoviki: command squad plus four frontoviki squads. I hope they end up usable as such and are worth having

I share your faith in the SSU, but not necessarily in the inner logic of the platoon lists.

Sure, in your case, if you can only field 2 Frontoviki squads in one platoon, you could still get a second command squad and build 2 platoons. But I just don't like guessing how I can build my army in advance.

On the other hand.. In Soviet Russia, army builds you..

Ive been trying to do the same thing and line up my purchases with possible platoon lists. Using the stndard Combat platoon and Sturmgrenadier platoon Ive tried to organize my purchases. Without the published platoon lists its kind of a crap shoot but I think that Ive gotten it fairly close (unless of course FFG has radically altered the composition for the SSU):

SSU Command squad: No brainer here. Platoon Command section- Same as Boss and Kommandotruppe. I ended up purchasing 2 to give myself alittle room when list building.

SSU Battle squad: I think its a safe bet that these guys fill the same role as the Combat Rangers and Battlegrenadiers. They should fill out quite a few of the slots in the lists (max of 3 in any given platoon Id guess as thats the limit on the Combat Rangers and Battlegrenadiers).

SSU Close Combat squad: As above but fills out the role of the Assault Squad and Laser grenadiers in the platoon lost. Again they will probably be available in quite a few of the section slots with a max of 3 slots again.

SSU Specialists: Will probably translate over exactly the same as their allied and axis counterparts. Max of 3 (either sniper or spotter) in a platoon.

KV 47: Should be fairly common support choice same as M2 seies and MPW II's.

SSU commissar squad: I think that this will end up being a platoon command choice for the SSU. Im not really sure what the 3rd platoon command will be (assuming 3 different lists to match the other 2 armies)

Those were the easiest to place in the platoon structure based on exsisting lists. The rest are kind of harder.

SSU Chinese Volunteers: I think that these guys will end up in the same role as the Recon squads in the Allied and Axis lists and so will be a fairly common section.

SSU rifle squad: Im hoping that they are the equivelent to the Ranger weapon squad. I hope that they are not the 3rd Platoon command choice like the Hell boys or Sturm Pioneer.

SSU airborne Walker: Support choice Dont know if its going to be single slot or take two for the Chopper and Walker separately.

SSU Attack Helicopter: Support choice

SSU Transport Helicopter: Not sure how this will be purchased. More than likely a support choice but it also makes sense to have an airborne Platoon list as well.

Another thing I think is that considering that the Allies can purchase and extra hero and Axis an extra Walker it wouldnt surprise me if the SSU could purchase an extra chopper as a platoon upgrade.

All of this is assuming released or announced models. For all I know there are upcoming releases that may change it somewhat (KV 152 is a likely release sooner rather than later, a heavy tank like in the Zverograd Tactics book, or something else completely).

My worry is, the description of the book only mentions, " This supplement includes a P latoon List with stats and costs for all of the SSU units…" I emphasized, "a platoon" in the description, as it is singular. I'm concerned they'll only have a Combat Platoon, with no Elite/Heavy or Assault Platoons, as the models which would lead them haven't been announced yet. I hope Strom is right about Commissars leading an assault platoon and the Arm 3 elite guys will be included for a heavy.

Wild speculation moment…

Perhaps that is delaying the book. Perhaps Dust Studios doesn't want the Arm 3 SSU troos announced just yet. *shrug*

Oh, I am always right…. wait a sec… I didn't say anything about Commissars and assault platoons… gran_risa.gif

Ok, let's say this… if what you are talking about turns out to be true then that is actually exactly what I was thinking even though I didn't say it… gui%C3%B1o.gif

If not, then, hey, I didn't say it! happy.gif demonio.gif

I really don't think SSU will be getting armor 3 guys but that is just a guess I think the SSU is going to focus more on getting close in and just over whelming the enemy in dice. The SSU have so many options in walkers and helicopters that I do not think we will need armor 3 but again that is just personal opinion.

Still, some infantry with anti-tank weapons would be nice. Seems tough to rely on copters and your own walkers to do all the AT work..

Perhaps they'll skip right past Armor 3 to Armor 4, and be the first, lol. I was actually surprised the Chinese guys with the helo weren't Armor 1s, until I saw their photo.

While I wait for my pre-order of the book to arrive I have one of each available SSU unit already purchased and painted. Once I have a list I'll know what I need more of. The Commissars unit should come with six (6) cards, one for each model if attached to other units and one if you keep them together. I also want to see if Nickoli will be a pilot on his card. I want a Fury of Ivan ASAP!

So, we're only a couple of days out from warhammer 40k's release and there's still no sign of the Zverograd Campaign book for Warfare.

Has FFG missed a golden opportunity to attract new players, or are they waiting for 6th Editions new car smell to wear off before they get people playing both games to check out the SSU's glorious entry into Warfare?

Releasing Zverograd against 40k 6th Edition is like a great indie film releasing against The Avengers, or The Hobbit. It makes much more sense to wait until after 6th Edition's hype has died down, then release Zverograd with breathing room (and maybe a bit of hype of its own!).

I still think it's due for mid-July, and I'll only start to worry if we get to mid-August and it still isn't out.

I'm guessing it'll be after GenCon at this point.

I heard the street release date for Zverograd will be in 2 weeks (or before) as FFG has to use the printers to get more Warfare books out. 6th Edition might delay it more.

Actually it may be next week, the German Panzer Kamf. III and the Commissars are out next week (according to my distributor).

Gencon is my guess/wish.

Does your distributor show Zverograd shipping next week? I'm just saying…why would it list things that are coming out and NOT list others that are coming out as well. Is that a common occurrence?

FFG has updated its status to, "On the Boat!" on their upcoming page, and, "Available Soon" on the Dust Warfare Products page!

I know my friends and I are going to be distracted from Dust fort a good long while as we are re gearing up for Warhammer 40K lots of excitment about the changes made to the system aplauso.gif Time will tell I know we are not "done" with dust but I am sure Saturday nights will be 40K nights for a good long time.

Our locals are so tired of 40k, 6th has barely registered a blip on their screens. The diehards will obviously play for about 5 months til they realize it's still the same old antiquated system like they did with 5th. We're starting to win a few of he diehards too. 40k is not a worry around here, and I don't think overall it affects the health of Warfare or Tactics.

I'm sure something like that will happen around here but we will play it for a couple months at the very least until we all learn the new rules and get a bunch of games in there are really only 2 people in our group that direct the flow of what games we play and that is Myself and my friend the store owner, Both of us are excited about the new edition and we will both play it a bunch and agree it is broken again then we will drift back to Dust, it is just the way our world turns!

One of the great things is I do not have to invest any more money into it as i own what ever I need for 3 different army's and My buddy is buying the rules so I don't have to do that either.

The status on the product page has changed to comming soon! Hopefully it should be out in no longer than a month.

Fingers crossed that the digital version will be available at the same time!

Yeah, I posted pretty much the same thing yesterday. Apparently we're the only two who care anymore. lengua.gif
