Congrats Sir Duck. I remember your prowess from my CPA days. God Speed.
DC Regional First Place Stark Knights
This is J.R. Haven't posted before but this seemed like a good thread to start.
First regarding wildling generally people know i've ran a stark wildling deck for a while and had my gf using it also. It is nice to have the extra kill but there is no big ways to get card advantage. The presence of seductive promise means loosing no quarter is not as painful. The bara version is strictly superior because of tls and Val. Period. No argument. The final match I had the worst set up of the entire day and still had a chance to win because of card advantage.
First snow of winter gave me that chance an is really just amazing. It's also good if you don't have tls and they set up well you can still use first snow to have rule by decree hit them.
Regarding the deck I loved the idea of seductive promise and upped that to three copies. That card was always a factor it stole me a vipers bannerman northern Calvary flank and conclaves multiple times over the course of the tourney. It was a game winning event and always swung the board. In my first loss to sirduck he stole a veteren knight with seductive promise that let him start drawing 3 cards a turn.
The original deck ran climbing spikes and I personally hate running attachments so I cut them completely. I liked the idea of salladhor the location discarder for repeated location control esp if you have marya on the board. I added him into the deck and found him helpful more useful than climbing spikes. There is another change I made but I m at work and don't have the deck in front of me.
Humanity is based on refining others ideas and making them your own. Borrowing from others and trying to improve upon the lessons you learn from them. For instance the deck Bret won the moonboy classic with stark knights with at the gates for Luien first turn is a great way for stark to get card advantage. In playing against it two times (sirduck) the event search definitely made the kill more readily available. It is a strong card advantage scheme that should be utilized not shorn away from for fear of condemnation.
In a similar vain look at the power level of the bara cards in the newest chapter pack. They are loading up bara.

I will agree that Wildling is a strong deck right now, especially out of Baratheon. I have tried it out of stark with marginal success, but honestly without the Val/TLS combo the card draw is not quite good enough to keep up with certain plays. The advantage out of stark is frozen outpost combos extremely well with the wildling horde. I also like Wildling out of greyjoy, all that stealth helps win challenges unopposed and the saves out of greyjoy help create card advantage.
Either way the first game I faced him having 3 turns of TLS+Val, was considerably more challenging than having no TLS the second game, even with Val. I do not feel like Val+TLS is broken, but I do feel like it is too strong.
Val/TLS/TftE IS too strong. They unrestricted it specifically to give bara some more strength to compete.
Meant to quote in the previous post.
Man, I feel extra stupid for that opener (and for losing the fantastic chance to have swapped seats as undefeated in Swiss) but I'll take getting to the top 8 in my first tourny and learn from the mistake
As for TLS+Val, honestly Bara is pretty cludgy without the tricks/draw those cards give you. Val already has the slight handicap that you MUST play the card you reveal with her, even if you dont want to, as long as you can. Sure, not the end of the world but i can get screwy if you are doing it during marshalling.
A bigger concern is The Maesters Path. Yes, it gives the game a cross-house option of similar value (yet notably different play styles/options based on the chosen house) yet it is freaking EVERYWHERE in the meta, arguably too easy to play and, via tin link, completely screws up the value of attachments, If TMP were restricted at least TLS+Va would be gone for Bara maesters (a reasonable loss for an already fantasticly b!tchy deck) and it would cut infinite looping Venomous Blades from Martell Maesters, which are equally cheap/annoying. Seriously: restrict TMP and the whole meta would benefit
That's NOT a terrible idea. Maesters still seem to be everywhere and there isn't much of a downside.

I support an errata to TMP of "Neutral Faction only."
