Nebelwerfer & Sustained attack question ?

By Testudo Maximus, in Dust Warfare

G'day Guys

I hope i word this question correctly , its late here .

Ok so yesterday i used the Med Pz Lothar with Nebelwerfer for the first time , i wasnt familiar with how to use it at all and my opponent guided me through the procedure of firing.

So Lothar requires both actions to fire its rockets, essentially Lothar requires a sustained attack to fire . Do i still get to re-roll the misses of the sustained attack even though i used sustained attack to fire the nebelwerfer in the first place ?

or should i interpret it as

Lothar requires both actions to fires it rockets, Lothar uses both actions to fire its rockets which results in a sustained attack and i do get to re-roll the misses .

Either way the process is interpreted , do i re-roll the misses for Lothars Nebelwerfer attack ?

If you have a page number with the answer id be very appreciative , thankyou , cheers Tom

You onlyrequire two actions if you are using indirect fire. Indirect fire allows you to shoot at something you cannot see (as long as a radioman in your army can see it) and gives you unlimited range. This requires two actions, is not a sustained attack and so you do not get re-rolls.

Alternately you can choose to fire directly using only one action as normal firing at a unit you can see with a range of 12-36 inches. If firing directly, you can call a sustained attack for two actions and re-roll your misses as usual.

Indidrect fire and the two action without re-rolls attack allows you to hide your Lothar behind a building for example, safe from the enemy, use the radioman to spot your target and fire at them no matter where on the table they are. The downside is since it is a reload weapon, you would use 2 actions to fire indirectly and then next turn would need one action to reload so you wouldn't be able to fire indirectly again next turn.

Strombole is correct.

For more details, check out the Nebelwerfer rules on page 112-113. The special rule for artillery references page 57, which I'll quote the relevant part here…

"When firing indirectly, an Artillery weapon does not gain the benefits of rerolling Combat Dice for a Sustained Attack; it must spend additional time aiming according to coordinates that are radioed in. For Indirect Fire, line of sight and range from the firing miniature is ignored. Line of sight is instead drawn from any miniature with the Artillery Strike special ability, and the weapon effectively has unlimited range. The attacking unit cannot attack a unit within 12” when using Indirect Fire.

For more on Indirect Fire see the Artillery Strike special ability on page 53."

Page 53 further explains how the LOS rule works through the radioman spotter.

Page 112 states a Nebelwerfer can be fired directly or indirectly.

If you were firing indirectly, then your opponent was right, it requires a sustained attack, and you cannot reroll misses. If you are firing directly, then you are not required to make a Sustained Attack, but if you choose to do so, you may reroll misses as normal.
