An unusual offer

By Gurkhal, in Dark Heresy

As an Inquisitor you have for a time pondered on the sudden collapse of warp routes to an strategically vital fortress world and junction of warp routes but none of your investigations into the area has given any result, nor has attempts to contact the planet been successful for Astropaths. The world is specially important because with the warp routes to and from it down an entire sub-sector is cut off from the rest of the Imperium, just now when an Ork Waaagh is anticipated to be launched upon it its separatist plagued worlds.

But suddenly time seems to stop and an inhuman voice whispers to you, telling you of the tech-sorceries employed by a previously unheard of xenos race to break communications to and from the planet, and that the population have been overrun and enslaved by the aliens. The voice offers to produce an agent of extraordinary capabilities to re-open the warp routes, but in exchange for this service the voice requests thatyou shall agree to give up any single one thing that is yours to give in the future when the voice so decides to collect its debt, or it promises to see to your continued existance in misery and defeat.

What to do?

You tell it to go to hell. Only a truly moronic Inquisitor would say yes to such an offer.

Yes this one was a bit sloopy made. But I've got other stuff in the kettle. :)

This one isn't so much sloppy, rather it is more complex than the previous dilemmas. I'm still considering my response, but telling the voice to go to hell is in there somehwere.

I doubt I would agree to the voice's demands. Rather, I would set my interrogator and throne agents to finding (And potentially purging) this obvious security breach. I would also charter a Rogue trader with a fast ship (ideally) or a similar naval vessel to investigate the world. I would also task an acolyte cell to accompany the ship in the event a planetary landing is feasible. Their mission would be to investigate if anything had in fact happened to the world. If the situation is as the voice described; well then, it's time to call the local Deathwatch captain or nearest Space marine chapter! (as well as potentially mobilizing IG regiments to retake the world)

We at last we agree on something. I guess the Inquisition pulls together when it is under threat.

I was also going to suggest sending in a scout ship with a kick-ass navigator to confirm whether the system has fallen to xenos. Put a primaris psyker on board as well for insurance. If the system has fallen to xenos, then let them bear the brunt of the waaaah! and send the deathwatch in to mop up when the xenos and the orks have spent their best efforts against each other (with orders to collect as much intel on the warp affecting technology as possible). If it hasn't fallen, establish new warp routes and hand the problem of the approaching waaaah! over to the Munitorium.

Of course, we still need to find the source of this voice and make it pay. No one threatens the Inquisition and gets away with it.

Of course! Threatening an Inquisitor, Whether they are radical or puritan or something in between (Like me!) is threatening the very fabric of the Imperium. In all likelyhood, the Voice in question is either part of whatever is threatening this world or an even bigger menace itself! If there is in fact Xenos tech at work than how much more advanced (and potentially threatening) is the capability to "defeat" it? More likely though; the Voice simply knows how to turn it off (which indicates collusion.). That was the reason I would task my Interrogator and his cell of actual "Throne agents" (Ascension grade agents) to the voice while using "mere" (Though preferably NOT inexperienced!) Acolytes to the scout ship. The reason I wanted to charter a Rogue Trader instead of a standard Naval vessel is the greater likelihood that the RT will have a veteran crew who are creative enough to deal with the mission. The Imperial Navy tends to view smaller vessels like raiders and frigates as "Learning opportunities" for Junior commanders. I need someone who knows what they're doing in this situation! The Acolytes are there to investigate if we get an "All quiet on the western front" situation. If it's an Orc Waagh or some such it's unlikely they'll need to make planetfall at all!

Thanks ;) although I still think it was a bit sloppy done. I was aiming for a G-man scenario from Half Life 2 but I shot a fair bit off the target.
