How high can you get!

By Guest, in Dust Warfare

I started doing this in response to another thread, but don't want to derail it. I am still interested in seeing how high people can get the points for a particular platoon. How many points can you fit in any of the platoons for either faction and still keep it legal?

I just made a legal allied combat platoon of 461 AP including:

Command: The boss

1st section: Grim Reapers

2nd section: Hammers

3rd section: Tank Busters

4th section: Red devils

Support: Punisher

Punisher

Snipers

Platoon upgrade: GB-9 strike

Heroes: Rhino, OZZ, Action Jackson

=461 AP

One rule I am not sure on is whether I get an extra hero for going over 450 or if I have to hit 600 before getting a 4th hero without the platoon upgrade. If you get one just by going over 450, then this list just got larger still with Rosie and a total of 482 AP!

How many points can you squeeze in and is the juice worth the squeeze?gui%C3%B1o.gif

I thought you could only get 1 hero for every 150 points spent. So you could not get 4 until you had 600 points. You should be good at 450 for 3 heros.

Although I can see where it could be confusing. Does buying the hero, which then puts you 1 point over a legal, or non-gamey way of doing it.,

Its not exactly 1 hero per 150 AP spent as an army of 151 AP gets 2 heroes, and 301 gets 3. But then the wording changes from "this AP to that AP" to "each extra 150" which is what confused me. But 3 heroes at 461 AP is definitely legal, though I'm not too sure about 4 at 482 AP. Of course you could get a fourth hero for sure by using the extra hero platoon upgrade, but at 5 points for the upgrade + 21 for Rosie, it adds 26 points, whereas a aeronca GB-9 adds 30 AP and I was just trying to get the points as high as I could.

The point limits for heros are per army, not platoon, so within this thought experiment you should be able to field as many heroes as you can within the 'final' points limit.

With that, here's a doozy . . .

Heavy Kommandotrupp: 35

Secion 1: Heavy Lasers: 35

Section 2: Heavy Lasers; 35

Section 3: Heavy Recon Grenadiers: 30

Section 4: Heavy Lasers: 35

Support:

Konnigsluther: 95

Konnigsluther: 95

Sniper Team: 12

Platoon Upgrade; Extra Panzer Support 10

Extra Panzer: Ludwig 40

Heroes:

Angela: 30

Totenmeister: 28

Lara: 29

Markus: 24

For a total of 533 . . .

Why not replace the Ludwig with an additional Konigsluther for 45 bonus points gran_risa.gif

That makes a glorious 578 pts.

Ah, well, you see, I had THOUGHT to do that . . . but checked the Extra Panzer Support rule just to be sure . . . and saw that it only buys you a Light Panzer under normal conditions, or a Medium Panzer if you have 4 sections . . .

So I just had to settle for the big medium guy :)

Oh, and of course, depending on the ruling for heroes, this list would settle down to a sad 509 if we had to take out Marcus gran_risa.gif

Ahh yes you're right, I was too quick to the draw..

oops

Because Extra Panzer Support does NOT allow Heavies.

And Craig beat me to this with the exact same list, except I would have taken a Lothar, as the Konigsluthers make the Ludwig superfluous, and the Lothar can hide and drop anti-infantry nebelwerfer barrages on infantry.

Well played sir, well played.

Feh. The Lothar looks funny . . . and you can never have too many HUGE twin linked cannons! gran_risa.gif

To be honest I was just rushing to get it posted before one of you speedy simons beat me to it! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Nice list Craig and thanks for taking the time to participate. I should have made a smaller list to start with so we could have had more participation, but, oh well. The win goes to the Axis and the mighty laser platoon 533- 482! Even if the allies could take M6 heavies in an elite platoon, they would still be easily defeated.

Soooo, Craig…. are we going to have a 535 point single platoon game? I will just make up the difference with 50 points worth of fortifications gran_risa.gif

I would have to buy a second punisher, but that's just a $32 paypal button push and a week in shipping time away. I could actually build the allied platoon right now if I borrowed a punisher though. The Axis list, not soo much lengua.gif

My earlier post confused even me. Another quick question on this list. How do you get 2 tanks and a sniper team in a single platoon? im still relativly new to this game so maybe I missed something. Otherwise very nice list.

Page 119, Heavy Kommandotrupp, Special Abilities…

Additional Support: A platoon that includes a Heavy Kommandotrupp may include one additional Support unit. This unit must be a Beobachter Team or Sniper Grenadier Team. The AP cost of the unit must be paid as normal.

As an aside, all six command squads in the game (thus far) have this same special ability. It's an extra reason to have an actual command squad instead of a hero, be your platoon leader. gui%C3%B1o.gif

My allies, 586. I'm just sayin'… lengua.gif

The highest legal single platoon I can see for the allies is 482 AP. How did you get 586?

Interesting, completely missed that on my readings.. Thanks for pointing it out for me. MY learnig curve should not be that high, but it sems to be.

I also agree with having Full command squads versus a single hero. Too many other goodies come with the squad.

Yeah . . . um . . . no. :)

I'm a Konigsluther and 2 Laser squads away from being able to do this . . . and although I regularly field ONE shwer laser squad and have been very pleased with its results . . . two more . . . no, I don't think I can do that to myself :)

But man, that would be a lot of points wrapped in not a lot of models, eh?

Let's see . . . 23 or 24 models, depending on heroes . . . wow.

The 300 point list I've been running currently has . . . 42 . . .
