Recon granadiers typo

By Sir Lipton Ice tea, in Dust Warfare

hi all new to this forum.
i noticed that the fluff text about the recon granadiers mentions grenades in their equipment, while they are completely absent from the profile.so is a fluff typo or a profile typo?

having some grenade in the axis would be really great, as from what i've seen they are one of the most powerful weapons in the game.

Very good catch, Page 123…

"Grenades and Panzerfausts ensure that Recon Grenadiers can deal with a wide range of enemies at close quarters,"

Although, in discussing all Axis Grenadiers, page 109, it reads…

"A Storm Grenadier's basic equipment includes “Sturmgrenadiere Ausf. A,” a rigid body armor made up of plates covering the chest, back, and shoulders, in addition to the ubiquitous steel helmet. Sturmgewehr 47 assault rifles are standard issue, along with knives for close-quarters battle and often – but ironically, not always – grenades."

For now, I think we have to play it as a fluff error, until (if) an Erratta gives them grenades. I'm guessing they removed them from the unit and forgot to edit that line out of the fluff.

I imagine that there was some kind of balance issue with them all having grenades. Sniper Grenadiers still have grenades, though, oddly enough, Angela can only kick and punch you ( a deadly kick and punch that she has for a skinny little girl too). I would think its simply a balance issue as the allies are sort of built to be deadlier at 6" with their shotguns, demo charges and other short range weapons, while the axis seem to have an advantage at range. Allies only have 3 weapons with a range over 24" (including the sniper), while the Axis have 7 (with 2 different sniper rifles including Angela). I think if every "Grenadier" unit had grenades too, it would screw up the balance in the game and the nice little mechanic they have going between the axis and allies. They would win the fight at range and more than hold their own in close quarters as well and that would be bad for the allies. Right now, allied units such as the BBQ squad are godly at 6" range, but would be less so if grenadiers could add cover ignoring 6" grenades to their arsenal. Could you imagine a battle grenadier unit that had 3 StGs, 2 Panzershreks, 2 Panzerfausts, and 5 grenades reacting to your Hammers squad? Or recon grenadiers + Lara + grenades? Scary. Armour 3 allied troops would be dropping like flies and UGL's wouldn't seem so special anymore.

Agreed, but they should probably change the wording in the Recon Grenadiers descriptive text.

I agree with you on that. Calling them "grenadiers" without grenades is problematic, but that is what you get when you use the same models with the same name in 2 different games.

also german grenades are so typical and iconical of ww2; the famous "potato headers" i wouldn't mind having some!

another newb question… are laser granadier useful in some way?

how do i counter UGL spam on allies?

I forgot about artillery weapons, so it's actually 8 long range weapons for the axis and 4 for the allies… 5 if you count in the long tomm, which is unreliable even with the 10 point upgrade. If you count the aeronca GB-9 artillery strike (which is only once per game, costs 30 AP, and takes a sustained attack) it brings the long range potential to 8-6 for the axis. Of course, I don't know anyone who would actually pay for the GB-9 in the first place for a one time double action shot that would on average kill less than 3 soldier 2 troops, 1 soldier 3 and likely miss against any vehicle, and this is before armour saves, meaning it might actually kill 2 soldier 2's, no soldier 3s, and likely miss against any vehicle, for 30 points and a double action on a radioman unit. It does negate cover, but is still lackluster. I would never ever buy a GB-9, though I admit I have tried many a long tomm strike, and have even used the upgrade to re-roll it. At least in my experience, the long tomm very rarely hits and then is only so so when it does, though the potential is there with some good rolling.

I would still give the long range shooting advantage to the axis forces any day of the week.

In regards to laser grenadiers, I talked all about them in another post found here. They can be very useful.

Yeah, check out the link in Stombole's post ^^^^^^

I love my LGs. But as you'll see, ymmv. Mine have been game winners too often to leave behind. Others hate them. I think it comes down to play style and perhaps some folks are using them as a square peg in a round hole.

i am talking about vanilla laser granadiers, not about heavy laser granadiers, that seem quite interesting on the opposite…

also i love axis walkers, luther and ludwig are so awesome..
lothar with his really versatile main gun, the fact that is a mechanic also really make me like it!

ludwig is pure anti tank hate….

LGs without Sigrid are so-so. Add Sigrid to LGs, and they are glorious. Manfred is also a very interesting guy to add to LGs. Makes them a bit more of a threat to armor 4 Walkers. Angela and Stefan (the only other two heroes don't make as much sense). Angela is wasted on them if you can bring a Sniper team which is pure synergy for her, and her Wound-3 doesn't help as much as the others with 4. Stefan just exacerbates the regular LGs biggest weakness, Weapon Range.

Edited to change Lara to Sigrid. I knew what I meant, just got their names confused. Hard to keep these blonde hotties apart. Except Angela, she is easy to remember. She looks like an angel, and my opponents call her the angel of death. Angel to Angela is easy mnemonics. angel.gif

Great post Shadow4ce. Its only Lara that couldn't join them as she is soldier 3 so can only join a soldier 3 unit. But Sigrid with laser grenadiers is pretty good with 9 wounds, Manfredd is better. Piggyback them onto another unit for the cover save and watch them kill stuff, as Shadow4ce has said, the better choice is Manfredd. Manfredd gives them 10 wounds, assault ( which is a great rule for laser units) and unlimited panzerfausts. Whether it is Heavy laser or just regular old ritz cracker laser grenadiers, the principles are the same…. put them with a good hero with the assault rule, piggyback them onto another unit, and blast them acroos the table to where you want stuff to die.

ohhh… and one more thing…. roll some bullseyes when using lasers! gui%C3%B1o.gif
