Question about force selection and sections

By MiniJunkie, in Dust Warfare

Hi folks,

Just wondering: I know you have to take a Command Section and one unit in the First Section as mandatory. After that, I'm wondering are you able to take as many of the units shown in each section as you want?

For example, say BLUtkreUz Platoon shows these in second section

Battle Grenadiers

Laser Grenadiers

Can you take one of each? Can you take multiples of either of those?

You can select 1 option from each section, only the first section is mandatory and you may pick and choose from the others as well, for example you may have a unit from section 4 without bringing a section 2 or 3.

example of a valid platoon:

Command Section:
Sturmpionere

1st Section:
Axis Zombies

2nd Section:
Laser Grenadiers

3rd Section:
none

4th Section:
Recon Grenadiers

Support units:
Sniper Grenadiers
Luther

Not unless they are also choices available in sections 3 & 4. You may only select one unit from each section.

So with out any "Support" or add ins from abilities, you have 5 choices. Command, and one each from the 4 sections.

No adding additional.

The first of which (after the command section) must be from the 1st Section. After that, you may skip around.

So in a way, there's a bit of a "hard cap" on the size of army that can be played?

Nope, not at all. An army can be made up of as many platoons as you can field if your opponent agrees. - You may have 1 platoon for every 150 AP or fraction thereof.

However, it could be said Platoonss have a hard cap to their size.

*smacks head* I completely forgot you can take multiple platoons!

When you consider that a single platoon could easily come to 350 points or more, it would be really hard to ever cap the size of an army. Even if you could only take 3 total platoons, you could easily make an army of 1000 AP, more than 3 times the size of a tournament sized army. Since there is no limit on the number of platoons, the sky is the limit.

Here is an example of how big you can go in even a single platoon, and I didn't check to find the largest that I could go. I could attach heroes and higher priced units to drive this number up even further!

Combat Platoon

Command: The boss

1st section: Gunners

2nd section: Hammers

3rd section: Tank Busters

4th section: Death Dealers

Support: Punisher

Punisher

Sniper team

Platoon upgrade: GB-9 strike

=370 AP

That's 370 AP, with no heroes attached at all. Add in 69 points for Ozz, Rhino, and Action Jackson, and you have a perfectly legal platoon of 439 AP! Wow! We should see how big we could really build in a single platoon. I am going to do that right now, to see how high I can really push it!

EDIT: Right off the bat, I can add another 22 by swapping Gunners for Grim Reapers and Death Dealers for Paratroops, bringing the new total for this combat platoon to 461 AP!
