SSU Demo Army

By ZombiEd, in Dust Warfare

If the rulebook is months away why dont FFG release the force organisation chart early - so you can start building your army. All games need more than 2 factions, and id hate to see a delay in the books release take the wind out of Dust Wrafares sails…..

So I totally get the desire to have the SSU book in hand, and I get the frustration of having models available for one game but not the other. The good news for me has been that I can buy slowly. Rather than pissing of my wife and coming home with $200 in models from the FLGS I buy a unit a week. I'm playing my Axis platoon, but buying and painting my SSU army. My guess is that FFG now has a really strange business problem. They don't own Dust and they probably didn't expect this kind of success. It will take 6 months to get all DT car printed with DW stats, and get the seasonally release cycle in sync with both rule sets.

My guess is more like 9 months to a year or more to get their cycles synced up.

And as far as ticking off ones wife and being happy you can buy slower goes, you sould try buying the Premium versions. If all the SSU were out at once (what's been announced thus far), and you bought them all, it'd be $795.00 before shipping! And I'm still replacing a few of my Axis & Allies with prepainted. (I didn't mind using unpainted minis for DT, but for DW I prefer painted - It's more likely to get new players to check it out). I'm down to two squads, two light Walkers, and the Heavy Walkers for each, and several Mickey variants for the Allies. Of course, new medium Walkers are now releasing, and the Walkers, unlike the regular box sets, only come with one variant in their Premium configuration, so it's been slow going over the years. I've worked out an arrangement with my FLGS owner though where I'm paying him a bit each paycheck for 5% less of a discount than I'd normally get. Well worth getting my models sooner than I would by saving up, and the wife hasn't disowned me yet. cool.gif

I'd suggest not requesting for a quick release of the SSU book unless you want it full of errors like the DW book.

Its gonna be that way no matter how long you wait. Its FFG.

IF they released the SSU pdf now people could spot errors, typos and rules issues and they could fix it BEFORE it goes to print.

People who want to play SSU can play and we get a tighter book when it is eventually released.

Win Win.

Many of the errors are because of the delay IMHO. Just read Spray, Burst, and Nebelwerfer for an example of what I'm talking about. And those three, the way they are worded, make me believe Grenatwerfer might be missing Grenade or Burst as a special ability.

Many American gamers complain to me, "Yuri, why do we wait so long for Soviet book?" Comrade, please. Soviet people wait in line for everything from bread to toilet paper to Michael Jackson 8-track barefoot in snow. You want to be in Red Army? Waiting for toy soldier book is no problem.

Hahaha. I read that in the voice of Heavy from Team Fortress 2. :)

You realize that if the book isn't currently at the printer then you are looking at at least another 6 months before the book would be out?

A book can get through the printers a lot faster than a full game can.

Not in my experience. Most high volume printers I and others I know have dealt with typically work on a very tight 3-6 month lead time. You must reserve print time 3-6 months in advance with no leeway. If you miss your turn in deadline, you lose your print time and go to the back of the line. If your printer really likes you, because you spend lots of money and pay on time, they might try to work you back in the line in a few weeks, if you are lucky. Then you must allot time for shipping and customs, a best case, everything goes your way, one to two weeks.

Full disclosure: I don't have any experience with overseas printers, so I can't say what their lead times are, but this was my experience with printers in the U.S. within the last three to five years.

In my professional experience, US printers love reliable business given the volume of outsourced materials. US printers have been in contraction for 20 years on account of technology alone…last ten have been ridiculous with outsourcing. FFG appears to be a client with lots of business to offer…a bright US printer would do well to get FFGs business and treat them like a hot swimsuit model second wife. Get the SSU FFG and give us a retail date!!!
