I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they meant.

I'm really looking forward to reading the rules. Finally…

Like many of you, I have read with great interest everything that has come out for Descent V2. After reading this latest update, I noticed some of the following lines within the text of the update and/or the cards:

"… place monsters on an empty space …"

"… go through the Overlord deck until you find a card of the specified type, discard all others …"

I sure hope that the rules for Descent V2 do a far better job than they did is V1, the FAQs, etc. is clarifying some of these key words such as "empty space", "discard", etc.

Should be fun to read the rules next week and find out.

Lov'n what I'm reading so far…..and we've also learnd that immobilized is a condition in the game . Looking forward for the rules! With the rules coming out out that means well should be seeing the game on the self with in 1-2 weeks after the rules are posted. ( That's been the normal trend with FFG. )

Never played V1, but what is the problem with "discard all others"? Seems pretty logical to me.

I think he's referring to the fact that the overlord could gain threat tokens by discarding cards in first edition. Thus, when a special effect instructed the overlord to discard a card, it was frequently unclear whether or not he would receive threat for doing so.

Though based on the previews, it doesn't look like that particular wrinkle is going to show up in second edition.

Playing as Overlord sounds streamlined and fun. Really looking forward of reading the rules. I've had the game on preorder since last August aplauso.gif

Certainly, you're right about this, but then, it's also the normal trend for the rules to be the final preview before the release, and "Pick Your Poison" mentions that we'll be getting a preview of the Scout. And even discounting that, it can't be within 1-2 weeks of next Thursday, since the game has been confirmed to be coming out after July 8. However, I really, really hope you're right, and that, against all odds, we'll see Descent before June is out.

I cannot wait to make my friends lives a living hell. :D

I was looking forward to see if they addressed the luck factor in 2nd edition. As I'm an Overlord who often feels outmatched in luck by the Heroes, I'm glad to see that cards that require Attribute tests have some kind of "consolation prize" when Heroes avoid nasty effects. At least unlucky Overlords receive the chance to try again and the removal of Threat makes retrying even more viable, because you won't have the drawback of having depleted your sources on useless attacks, as was very common in 1st edition (at least in my games).

Looking forward to read the Rules, but so far I liked what I've seen. Need to have a look to treasures and to understand how difficult is to kill a Hero or a Monster.

Am I forgetting a case where the OL didn't get Threat when a card was discarded? As far as I know, he always got threat for every card he threw away without using, regardless of why he was throwing it away, voluntary or otherwise. I never played too many games with feat cards though, perhaps there was something there?

Time will tell how well written the 2e rules are in these regards. Personally, the meanings of "empty space" and "discard" were never issues for our group in 1e. I don't expect them to be in 2e either.

The Preventing Evil and Foiled Plans feats specifically do not grant threat for the discarded cards. Disarm doesn't specifically say, though since the overlord is still paying the threat cost for playing the card, it's unlikely he would gain the discard value.

The treachery card Time Slips Away specifically does give threat for discarded cards. Urgency does not specify one way or the other, and whether you grant threat for the discarded cards makes a very big difference to the card's power. I got the impression that it shouldn't, but I never actually played with it because I had already switched to Enduring Evil by the time I acquired Altar of Despair .
