Maester Wendamyr + Tin Link Vs Attachment Burn.

By Whizzwang2, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Still trying to get my head round this one.

You Flame Kissed a dude.

I kneel Maester Wendamyr to save him,

Why can't I tin link the Flame Kissed away to remove the terminal effect?

Explain as you would to a child gui%C3%B1o.gif

Because you cannot initiate a save effect against a terminal state unless that save effect would also remove the terminal state.

In this case, the proposed way of removing the terminal state, Tin Link, is a separate Response, which would only be tiggered by Maester Wendamyr kneeling. Since his ability would not remove the terminal state, he may not initiate it, thus he cannot kneel to do so.

Why can't you initiate the save?

I can see why you generally wouldn't, since they'd just die again. I can't see why you can't.

Basically, because the rules say you can't. It's in the FAQ which you can find on the support page of the AGoT game page. The rules say you can't attempt to save from a terminal effect unless the save itself would remove you from the terminal effect.

**** YOU LOGIC!

Back to the anti-burn drawing board then. You have no idea how pleased with myself I was when I thought it worked.

There are few cards that can save from burn. Risen from the Sea would work in this scenario, since not only does it save and boosts the character's strength, but it also becomes an attachment to the character, nullifying Flame Kissed.

Flaming Sword is an anti-burn as opposed to a save.

I have been a fan of King's Pavillion a lot lately.

One of the reasons I think GJ needs to run Risen from the Sea in every deck is because it is such great burn counter. Seeing as almost every kill-by-burn effect is "a character with no attachments", Risen from the Sea doubles as both a save and removes it from the terminal state because it's no longer a valid target for the effect. Then all you need is Finger Dance for incinerate…

Actually you're missing half the reason why risen from the sea is great as anti burn tech. Yes it stops the passive on flame kissed but it doesn't stop the effect of othe "no attachment" burn such as aegon's legacy or hatchlings feast because they had no attachments before the effect was initiated.

What makes it good anti-burn tech is the +1 STR effect.
